There were several teams in the region that had games on one or two of the tryout dates due to all the rain we had this spring. Thus, there had to be exceptions made. Couldn't penalize a kid because his team had to make up a game.

All the teams in region 6 had makeup games to play and most were able to come to all three tryout dates.
Just a few from one area, wasn't able to make but one tryout, which the rules stated "must attend two".
If exceptions are made, then the rule needs to be removed. It's kinda like the speed limit is 55 unless you're late to a meeting and then you get an exception.
I am kinda frustrated with this process, so I apologize in advance if I offend anyone. IMHO, there are several from last year and this year that deserved to make it, that didn't and the ones that get the press DO.

It's all about the marketing....

And...if you complain, or make an issue of it, they call it sour grapes. Rules are rules...unless of course, you're the one that's bending them. I agree with all that you say, but clearly - we obviously have reason to agree with one another (I don't know you and don't know your circumstances, I'm just sayin). You won't hear those that the rules were bent FOR complaining or that the process is flawed. It is what it is, unfortunately.

I would never have to question his (or any kid's) ability if the process was legitimate. That's what this is about, more than him making the team. If all the same rules applied to each and every invited kid, then the process would be the same for each and every kid. It's not, so therefore, it's easy to say that the process is flawed. To him, this was his one year - I don't believe he'll either be interested or have the opportunity next year.
