    Plate Ump

Lawrie's zone was large in every direction last night. Kruk did comment on it a couple of times. FL hitters had no idea what to swing at.

I have to agree.. she makes it almost intolerbale to watch when she is in the booth. Its not only her though... the CF for FL was criticized for being to close in game 1 on the catcher's throw which sailed into CF. Could they not realize that she was only about 15 steps from the dirt when she threw home? There was no time to get back to a reasonable depth to back the play up.

During the super regionals Smith made the comment after a strikeout that you have to learn to hit the pitch 2 to 3 balls off the plate because that may be the best pitch you see the entire at bat... er uh.. Michelle... that's called a walk.

    It was fun

Other than the pitching zone at times. This was a fun WS to watch. More HR's and hits than ever. Grand slams to end games or get back into games. Fla and Ala Sunday night, incredible game. Wash. Monday dominance. Last night D Lawrie was an overpowering pitcher after Wash got the lead and Fla could not touch her. Yes she may have gotton some calls. But she pitched it and the ump called it. This WS had it all. 250' HR shots or longer, bad pitching, good pitching, errors, super catches, a 72mph fast ball. Can anyone hit that around here.... NOT. Bring on HS, TB and showcase then dream about your girl playing at that level one day. It can happen.

The only to get away from an inconsistent strike is someone to invent an electronic umpire.Set the strike zone at the beginning of every game, and let the machine do the work.

We both know that it depends on the umpire.

I don't understand why umpires are taught to stay in one place to watch a pitch. They all seem to line up on the inside corner and stay on the inside corner to attempt to call an outside pitch. Why can't they move when the pitch is released to follow the ball if its going towards the outside corner??

There are many, many variables in a game. That's why it is not always the players' or coaches' fault when they lose--or when they win. But when you are prepared you have a much better chance to win--or lose. Admit it or not but luck is as much a factor as anything else for teams of equal ability.

    did you see

the ball hit right down the RF line that went over the fence and bounced directly on the foul line that was extended on the other side of the fence. It was ruled foul. Probably should have been fair.

    the forbidden zone...
I have wondered that myself. Maybe if they moved as you say they wouldn't call a pitch that is two balls off the outside corner of the plate, a strike.
