Ok, lets get some things straight, everyone who is invited to the state games tryouts are good ball players because if they weren't good ball players, they wouldn't be invited. So ofcourse there are going to be kids who are good that don't make the team. There are a lot of college players who sit the bench who may have been all-state or maybe even all-americans in high school, but no matter what, you still have to perform in practice to earn a position. Most kids these day dont know how to work hard and earn anything anymore because it is all given to them. No offense to anyone on here, but it is the truth about "most" kids today. So if you didn't make the team this year, then that means you need work harder, get better, and beat out those players next year.

Some kids work very hard on their game, on and off the field. Some kids don't. I am not sure this played a role in the selection process as it apparent some of these coaches may not have even seen some of these kids at the tryouts. They may know some of the kids through experience of their team playing against them or word of mouth that certain kids are good players.

It is what it is. I am sure that it is not an easy job picking kids from such large regions, and I don't think it will change. Kids need to continue to go out and just play their game and work hard. If the opportunity to play presents itself, then go play. If not, then come back and try again. As I told my kid, take advantage of all opportunities, but most of all, go out and enjoy playing the game and give 100%. It will pay off in the long run.

and btw...I'm not really too concerned with my kid. I think he'll be OK. What I do care about is the kid that doesn't get a lot of press, has gone above and beyond and elevated his game beyond compare, who could really USE this opportunity to help showcase his talents, but is overlooked. Or the kid that has gone above and beyond during the season...has surpassed everyone's expectations, and he doesn't even get an invite. Those are the kids that would benefit from a system with integrity - not a popularity contest.
