I read some boxscores of "showcase events" and noticed a complete game by a pitcher. If this is truly an event to "showcase" talent, why would a pitcher need complete game? If it is a tournament, say so!

When I get information on a "showcase", I expect to see lots of pitchers (and none no more than once through the batting order). I may be in the minority with my opinion but....does anyone else see my point?

This tme of year, I would rather scout a true "showcase" than attend a tournament where the sole emphasis is on winning. I could be wrong....but 'tis the way I feel.

CB... sounds like what you see in travel "showcase" softball.

Next thing you'll see is a bunch of kids "playing up". You'll go to a showcase tournament to watch a 17u team, thinking these are guys you can recruit during the next year, and then you'll find out half the team is made up of 15-16 yr. olds.

This could be a by-product of the growth in the number of "showcase" teams and the dilution of talent, especially pitching. It's well documented that expansion in MLB has lowered pitching talent at that top level, why would anyone think that it wouldn't be true at the high school age level also?

I always liked the 3,2,2, then 1,1 or 2 inning breakdown for a showcase game. Over a weekend most, if not all the pitchers on a roster would get at least 3 to 4 innings and a chance to show their stuff.

My biggest compaint - if it is a complaint - is that since recruiting travel budgets are being significantly cut, do the players a service by accurately portraying the "type" of event. Recruiters will tend to assemble at the events that maximizes both the exposure for the kids and the number of kids that can be seen at the event. "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me!"

What are the thoughts of coaches that get tossed at a "showcase" event?

It's the one's that the scouts are following. They're easy to spot.

    Scoreboards!

It sure does make the experience more satisfying when the showcase promoter has made arrangements to have the scoreboard working and staffed at each venue. Doesn't seem like too much to ask for....
