    Disappointing

Sad to see the Heels go down yet again. With such a great pitching staff it was tough to watch that 7th inning. Calhoun is on a mission...kinda looks like John Reep (comic from Hickree) I kept waiting to see him break out in a stand up routine after his double.

Carolina pitchers looked afraid to go after the devils - Foxy looked like he was awestruck without an answer for the offensive onslaught.

Credit to ASU for never panicking and trusting the TEAM to answer. Pat Murphy looks like he could play Patton in a war movie - he's got to be a marine at heart.

Spence had Ack's # all night.....

    Hook 'em!

    Lets look at some

    numbers.

    Texas 32 - 6
    Miami 22 - 4
    USCal 21 - 12
    ASU 20 - 5
    Ok St 19 - 0
    FSU 17 - 0
    AZ 15 - 3
    Stanford 15 - 2
    Cal St Full 15 - 4
    LSU 13 - 5

That means Texas has failed 26 times they have been to Omaha.
Ok State has failed 19 times "everytime" they have been to Omaha.
FSU has failed 17 times "everytime" they have been to Omaha.

Now who wants to talk about the programs that have never been? Or the ones that have been once or twice and gone 0 -2 everytime?

Getting there is very tough , period. Getting there mulitple times is a great accomplishment in itself. Getting there four years in row is something to be very proud of.

I think what UNC has accomplished shows what is right with NC baseball not what is wrong with it. If you get there enough times sooner or later you get it done. One thing for sure is if you never go you have no chance at all.

Calhoun is on a mission. He is proving that it doesnt matter what anyone else thinks about you ie ML Scouts. It only matters what you believe. And that kid is out to prove everyone wrong. And he has already done that. He is playing pissed off at the world and having the time of his life. He is shoving it in everyones face and laughing at them while he is doing it.

    You're Right!

Just the fact that only one ACC team (1955 Wake Forest) has won the title shows how tough it is. I'm sure UNC is going to get many more chances. Like you said, there are many programs that have never made it to the College World Series. (ECU for one).

It appears that the CWS is about getting hot at the right time as well as matchups. It also seems that the teams with a mix of athletes and power (IMHO the lack thereof was UNC-CH's weakness this season) tend to do well. You may need to play gorilla ball one game (heck one inning)and small ball the next.

Also looking at the teams who have won it recently, got to have a short hook with the guy on the bump. Wayne Graham for example wastes no time in snatching a kid, not unusual for him to use 4/5 arms a game.

The good news for the Heels is that they continue to recruit well and will reload.

I have a different take on this, Harvey was only charged with 3 runs, and NC used 7 pitchers in 8 innings. But 10 walks, 4 hit batters was what killed them. Guys throwing 90 but no control against a guy throwing 82 and great control. If anything is a NC problem, it's always getting the guy throwing 90, and never giving the guy throwing 82 a look.

    Alex White?

surprised there hasn't been any debate here on whether Mike Fox ever considered Alex White as starting pitcher on Thurs. night vs. ASU.

    on 3 days rest.
ASU did this with the Aussie lefty.

Fox wasn't going to jeopardize White's future by throwing him on 3 days rest.

UNC had to win 3 games in 3 days anyways.

At some point, Harvey and the bullpen guys were going to have to pitch. Alex could not pitch all 3.

Might as well wait until Alex is rested to pitch him when you have to win 3 straight anyways.
