Next to the run for the HS state championships, this is my favorite time of the year for NC softball. This is when all the "heavy-weight" teams are finally "out" and are beating the crap out of each other trying to earn that coveted berth to the ASA Nationals!

So...who has punched their tickets so far????

    12U: Normal, IL (?)
    14U: Marietta, GA (?)
16U: Sioux Falls, SD Carolina Cardinals (Chandler)
18U: Las Vegas, NV Lady Blues (Threatt) & Sun Devils
(* Looks like the 18U tourney is at the best place!!!)

Are there any others that I have missed that have qualified?
Are any teams from 12U and/or 14U going to make the trip?

Good Luck to the 16U Cardinals, 18U Blues, and 18U Sun Devils! Show those west coast teams how we do it in NC!

Vegas??? It was 106º yesterday at 6pm... but it was a dry heat. :D

Today it is a little cooler at 103º with a "real-feel" of 110º

Hey. I'll take Las Vegas over Moline, IL, or Sioux Falls, SD any day of the year! :)

One thing I like about Vegas, is that you don't have to worry about rain outs too much!

Watch some softball.....go to the tables to roll the bones awhile....go back and watch some softball.....back to the tables! Not a bad way to spend a day and/or night! But, alas...I guess this stuff is for the kids, right? My bad.

It's going to be another fun-filled July watching our NC girls go out onto the big stage to represent our state. At a broad level, it appears that Threatt's 18U Blues have reloaded for another shot at 18U, Chandler's 16U Cardinals are a team of young guns worth watching over the next couple of years, and that the 18U Sun Devils wisely let the NC teams beat each other up at the NC ASA States, while they were going to SC to steal a berth. Very smart!

Are there other qualifiers for NC teams? Or, is it pretty much done now? I'd love to see more NC teams go for it on the "big stage."

GOOD LUCK TO ALL TEAMS AT THE ASA NATIONALS!

    Played the odds :^)

Lots of teams from all over the SouthEast at the qualifier: Big names too: Vipers, East Cobb Bullets, Georgia Thunder.... There were two berths offered at the tourney in Greenville so our team just needed to finish in the top two BUT our girls played tough and stayed undefeated thru bracket play and won the tourney.

Also very proud of the team that no college players were brought in to play for this event. We do have a couple of girls that will be freshman next year in college on the team and have showed great leadership to the younger ladies. Sort of the nascar version of "Run what ya Brung" On to Vegas!! Can I start a fundraiser thread???? :^)

So.... you accomplished more due to not having college players. Not sure who did but glad you got that off your chest.

Boomer, many parents, coaches and players believe that once you enter college you should leave the tournament ball to the ones who havent. Two years ago, a movement was on in the western states to make this a rule with the intent being the exposure of the "unsigned/uncommitted". Nothing has come of this, but you can see that this is viewed as a point of interest nationwide.

a couple of years ago, I did an informal survey with some of the college coaches that i know and asked them if they would prefer their recruits to play ball their final summer or just do the conditioning drills that they had been sent.

almost all replied the same.....dont play ball, do the conditioning, take the break because if you do play ball during that summer, you are looking at 18 months of softball/conditioning/softball for your first year of college and that's where they lose the most players, during that first year.

I'm not saying it applies to all, but it makes total sense in my book.

I personally would like to see all showcase tournaments played with players that have not signed or entered college. To me, that is what a showcase tournament is for......jmho

I have to say I agree with that 100%! That would also save a college coach a little time not having to sort out who is eligible or not. And it would eliminate the risk of injury after having achieved the goal of signing. Even if the chosen college coach gave her blessing to play it would make more sense to compete in events other than showcases. Not to mention that the spot occupied by a player who is already committed is taking an opportunity away from a player who is still searching.

    18 U ASA State Tournament

I believe this thread is about the ASA State Tournament which is not a showcase but qualifying tournament for nationals. I agree with showcases but to say you did something I guess the other teams didn't just sounded pompus to me. Sorry if I offended.
