    is the new baseball coach at UNC-Asheville. Incoming and current players were notified last night and it is now official this morning.

    next will be naming assistant(s)... hopefully they will give him enough budget to hire two of quality... pitching and hitting, and to help with recruiting.

    Chris Moore would be a great choice for assistant coach. Chris played at Western Carolina and is from Wilmington. He was the head coach at Lander Univ. in South Carolina. Just throwing out a name but I feel would be a great hire for Coach Smith. Wish UNC-A the best of luck next year.

    The Asheville Citizen Times reported that former MLB Darren Holmes, who played for Smith at TCR, will be a volunteer assistant in charge of pitchers.

    I have heard nothing with reference to either. All I know is that the son made a recruiting call to my son.
