    Game 4

Starting late, due to internet being down for awhile. Anyway, here is what I got from the broadcast.

Final: Cherryville wins game 3-2. Wins the series 3-1. Next series is against Burke Co. and starts Saturday night at Cherryville.

    Cherryville...... 200 010 000.........3 5 0
    Caldwell Co..... 010 100 000.........2 7 0

    Starting Pitchers:

    Cherryville Post 100..........A. Benefield ---- 9 innings
Caldwell County Post 29.....A. Bentley ----- 9 innings

Sorry about lack of stats on the pitching. The announcers never gave totals during post game show. Listening to most of the game, it sounded like both young men really gave a terrific effort tonight. Both pitched complete games and had more than a couple of K's.

Game ended when Martin made catch in deep center (warning track?) with 2 outs and the tying run on 3rd in the bottom of the 9th.
Seems like game 1 ended with Martin making a difficult catch at the fence/against the fence in the top of the 9th.

No wonder this series is so popular. Close exciting games with great fan support.

I'm the first to complain so i'll be the first to praise. The grounds crew did a great job getting the field ready today. I think we had more rain today than Monday. They did a great job today and the field looked good. Just wish the fence wasn't 410' in center field. LOL

    Game 4 Observations

I'm glad I made the trip to Granite Falls last night. It was one helluva a game. Both pitchers went the distance, only giving up a combined 5 runs to 2 solid lineups.

A few observations I made while in attendance at MS Deal.

    1. Cherryville fans have no idea what a strike zone is. If a Post 100 pitcher threw it and the catcher caught it, it must have been a strike.

    2. Caldwell County fans have no idea what a strike zone is. If a Post 29 pitcher threw it and the catcher caught it, it must have been a strike.

    3. I've never heard a coach be heckled like BDR is everytime he makes the trip back to the dugout from the 3rd base coach's box after the 3rd out. It's understandable when he arguing with the umpire, but most times he's just strolling back to the dugout. He should have actually came out and took a bow after the 3rd out in the bottom of the 9th like the Caldwell fans requested earlier, but I'm sure they would have had something negative to say if he would have, even though they did ask him to do it.

    4. The Cherryville player who tried to steal home on the passed ball in the 7th or 8th inning was OUT. As much as my fellow Post 100 fans don't want to hear it, The umpire made the right call.

    5. I found it funny, on the way out after the game, how many times I heard somebody say "Too bad that fence is so deep in center" referring to the long fly ball that was the 3rd out in the bottom of the 9th. Well if they would have played on a Little League field they may have scored 50 runs between the 2 of them. There were several deep fly balls hit in the game that may have been HR's in other ball parks. Maybe they just meant that they should have moved the fence back just for the 9th inning.

    6. The jumping hip bump (21st century version of a high 5) is stupid. So is eye black smeared all over your face.

    7. The umpires were fair. The homeplate umpire did not like breaking pitches on the outside corner to a right handed hitter. I picked up on it in the 1st inning so I'm not sure why it was such a suprise everytime he called one a ball.

One more thing, This was a great matchup. These guys really went after each other and some great baseball was played! I can not believe that the last two ball games went down to the final out with the tying run on third. Great job!

Ok, one more thing. Whoever said Caldwell was overrated had better hope not for Cherryville's sake. I think they gave them all they could handle. Two very good team. Go Burk!
