    Kinston 3, Wilson 2

Kinston knotted the series at two games apiece. Ironman Carter Capps follows up a 100-plus pitch performance in Monday's opener with 112 pitches in a complete-game effort Thursday. A double by Capps was the only extra-base hit, staking the visitors to a decisive 3-1 lead in the 6th inning.

Game five of the series is Friday at Kinston High School, and Rocky Mount rests and awaits the winner Sunday at Northern Nash HS to begin the East Division finals. Kinston improves to 17-5, while Wilson drops to 13-10.

    Post 43's Carter Capps

This guy is a stud! Pitched 5 innings on Monday, played 1st base on Tuesday, caught 9 innings on Wednesday, and pitched all 9 innings on Thursday and was still in upper 80s in the 9th. Absolutely amazing! But, does anyone other than me think this is a little too much? I'm wondering if ole Coach Lancaster would be impressed or highly peaved! At some point in time, a Legion Coach or even a parent has got to step in and say "that's enough". Just my 2 cents worth. Capps has a bright future if his arm doesn't fall off this summer! May the force be with you!

    Wilson 6, Kinston 3

Post 13 scores 5 unearned runs in the 1st, tacks on an earned run in the 9th and closes the game and series with a triple play, 4-6-3-2. David Gibbons sets the tone with a triple on the first pitch of the game, and Justin Nygard (7-2) goes on to pick up the complete-game victory. Kinston's Kaleb Wessell, after the shaky 1st inning, keeps Wilson off balance throughout before giving way to Shane Flynn in the late innings.

Wilson (14-10) is in the Area I East finals for the first time since 2004 and will travel to Northern Nash HS on Sunday to face North Conference regular-season champ Rocky Mount. Kinston, the South Conference champ, finishes 17-6.

    Final Four

Wilson goes to Rocky Mt and Durham sings down by the Riverside hosting Cary.

Game 5 in Kinston. Wilson scores 5 unearned in the first and holds on to win 6 - 3. Kinston puts the first two on in the bottom of the 9th. The next batter grounds to second who shovels to the SS covering on to first then to home for a game ending (season ending) triple play.

    What about Nygard

Carter is awesome. He RUNS everyday and works out. PLUS his parents are VERY on top of things. Trust me! He has pitched 49.6 innings walked 14, struck out 49 only given up 6 earned runs and has an ERA of 1.08. I would call that a MAJOR stud!
Nygard pitched Monday 8 innings threw 139 pitches (62 B and 77 K) pitched Friday 9 innings 142 pitches (59 b and 83 K) What would the coach at Pitt have to say about that?

The American Legion playoffs put alot of pressure on the coaches of these teams. You play a best of five series, 5 nights in a row. Obviously, you want to squeeze in 2 appearances by one of your best pitchers if the series goes 5 games. Capps is not only a pitcher, but plays 1st base & catches. After pitching Monday night, he came back the next night and played 1st base on Tuesday, then caught a complete game on Wednesday, & followed that by pitching a complete game on Thursday. His arm didn't have any down time at all. Nygard is a pitcher only. After pitching Monday night, he didn't throw again until Friday. There is a big difference between the two situations. Anyway, Carter Capps & Justin Nygard are both very impressive and Mt. Olive & Pitt are fortunate to have them.

Sorry, you have to excuse me. My mind is in perpetual lighten-up mode most of the time. Congratulations on Durham Post 7's success in the playoffs so far.:innocent:
