Good advice from all, but sadly situations like this hurt prospects more than you might think. We are a reflection of who we hang around with. UNless we lead, then we follow. IN this day and age why would a coach take a chance on questionable character, even if it is "guilt by association", which I don't always buy. It would take in this day a remarkable kid not to go with the crowd and I am glad those who chose to not follow their peers and do the right thing did it.

With this babbling being stated, you have to be honest, straightforward and have as much tact as the situation dictates.

Most people automatically put a smile on their face when the name "Barney Fife" is even mentioned in any conversation,,, however, there is something VERY SERIOUS to be said for "nipping it in the bud".

Years ago, my folks did their share of "bud nipping"; therefore, I just didn't think about doing "certain things",,, because I knew the consequences when I got home. I'm pretty sure my sons both knew "what" was expected of them out in public also, whether it be in a restaurant, in school or on a ballfield.

Parents nowadays just don't "bud nip", like parents used to.

And CoachEvans, you know the answer to your question, is that college coaches "don't have to take chances" on questionable characters,,, because theres too many kids out there fighting for that same scholarship who's acting like they have some sense.

Absolutely, given a choice character and less talent can improve, talent and an lack of character probably will peak out.
