Wow.. I still can't believe it. I know coming into the beginning of this year that we would have another good team, but you just don't ever know if they're going to have that will and desire to win a state title, and this team certainly did. Also one thing about this team is, that although Trey Holmes was a big reason why Rowan hoisted that trophy, everybody on that team was needed. I believe you remove one piece of that puzzle, and it doesn't happen. Preston Troutman was making only his second start of his legion career and he ends up the winner of the state title game. This team really pulled it together and decided they weren't going to lose that final game. So proud of the guys and what they have accomplished. So the Rowan boys of summer are going to take their talents, hearts, and desires down to Sumter, SC to see what happens. I know the road only gets tougher here. There were some really good teams in Greenville this weekend and week. Congrats to all the teams for making it there. Also congrats to Shelby on a great season.

Way to go Rowan! 2009 North Carolina Legion State Champions!

I couldn't agree more. While this team has some great talent I am impressed with how they pick each other up. Someone has an off game and then the guy that has been struggling goes 3 for 4 and picks up the slack.

All the role players have done their job as well. At sometime during this season and playoffs every player on this team has stepped up and done an outstanding job in what they were asked to do. Got to give our coaching staff a lot of credit as well. The moves they have made this year have proved to be the right move many more times than not.

I loved Trey's quote in the Salisbury Post today about whenever the members of this team visit Newman Park for the rest of their lives they will always see 2009 listed as winning the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. I doubt they really realize the significance of that yet.

    Congrats Rowan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The things folks are speaking of,,, players knowing their roles, players picking each other up, certainly EXECUTION, etc,,, all goes back to one thing,,, COACHING.

Talent will only take you so far. Go back and look at all the good programs (Rowan, Cherryville, Shelby), and yes they have talent, but they also have one other very important common denominator,,, a coach that knows "HOW" to win. I know all coaches want to win, but lets face it all of them don't know how.

I promise if you know anything about baseball at all, the one thing you take home with you when you go watch Rowan County play any regular season game on any given Tuesday night with no stakes on the line against anybody,,, is "thats a well-coached team".
