Taking the rule to extremes by ADs

Sometimes the rule is take too far. I was told by the school AD that I can't practice my travel team at the school until the dead period is over. He said it would give the school a look of impropriety during the dead period, even though it isn't the HS team practicing.

I don't coach HS, I only have 3 players from that particular HS on my team and none of the coaches at the HS are involved with my team(except to give me permission to practice there). Why should my team have to suffer for a rule that doesn't even apply to us?

The only ones suffering now are the girls.

There would be no rule violation there. But I can understand where he's coming from.

I am not sure why you feel that you are entitled to practice on the HS field in the first place. Does your team rent the field?

Give it a rest ? I have 3 rising seniors that have not signed. Their last chance may be gone because of some BS. I have had 3 girls in years past get signed because of exposure at the Myrtle Beach tourney. 7 of 8 graduated seniors have signed from this team. All of our TB coaches volunteer at the HS level so we would all be in violation. This rule may, may protect a few girls from overzealous HS coaches but it hurts many many more that love the game and are involved in a positive activity. All 3 play volleyball and there is NO conflict with TB softball and their HS team. The NCHSAA needs to put the interest of the girls first. There will be violation of this rule starting tomorrow. Rules are for everyone !

Personally, I commend you for standing up for your girls. I hope rules don't get misapplied just because they are rules.

Where in my post did I say we were entitled? I have promoted fast-pitch softball in our community for the last 7 years. My team practices there with the permission of the coach, we take care of the filed(rake, drag, pull weeds) and we also support the team with donations through the booster organization as a THANK YOU for letting us use the field.

My post clearly stated that it is a shame that a group of young ladies trying to improve their softball skills have to suffer because of a rule that is clearly written to impose rules on HS coaches.

I don't know how most of you fell but I would never turn someone in for violating this outdated rule. anyone who does break this will being doing it for the girls and not doing any harm. Some rules are just bad and this is one of them.

    Here Is The Solution!

....to all of you, us, we, I, me ,they, ahhhhh who cares how I call some folks out, you, us ,we, it makes no difference.
WE all are in this for the good of the kids, atleast thats the way it should be.
Hey if Coach EFG at a school has to freak out on a rule, outdated rule BTW, to make excuses for why his/her team can't play on the same field as other schools who have parents/volunteers taking off work, giving up their Saturdays and clocking out at 2:00 on game day to make sure their field is lined to make a cool field for the kids to play on, are the very folks we need to KEEP involved, not regulate them out of the equation!
    :doh::doh::doh::doh::doh:

Instead of slinging snot to the "bigs" as to "violations", why not use your time to make your team better.

    Now I'm done,

    Fish

    adopt

If the high school coach is smart they would adopt a TB team that is in their area and let them use the field in return for donations and taking care of the field. Most schools don't get any money for softball because it is not a money maker for the athletic program. There are some programs that get money but most don't. Some athletic directors won't allow it but with the cutbacks in school money they should welcome any help within reason. The old story is usually still true the girls don't get as much as the boys. As for the rule for coaches it is outdated and needs to be changed. Another rule that needs to be changed is the number of games you can play. The limited number of games hurt the girls that want to play ball. Just because you have some coaches that don't want to play any extra because they are in it for the little bit of extra money don't hurt everyone else. They can rid of the eight rule to.

Does the Dead Period rule apply to american legion baseball? I know that the state tournament ended before August 1st but there have been many years it lasted beyond that. I am sure that at sometime a team has won a state tournament and participated in regionals past august 1st. and I am sure that those teams have had players and coaches from the same high school? Wouldn't this be a rule violation?
