I agree with Cheeze esp. on the fact that many dads who try to get involved at the HS level whether in dugout or esp in stands can do more damage than good if their intentions are not right. I hear many dads, moms too, on the sideline being so negative about the coach, players etc-everyone except their daughter who just booted a ball and struck out. Some dads need to stop trying to live for their daughters. On the flip-there are some great dads and HS coaches that find the balance and make it work. The HS coach has to lay the rules down and the dad has to have the programs ENTIRE interest at heart not just his daugters.

You can debate this stuff to death I guess. And everybody sees what THEY WANT to see and HEAR what they want to hear. My daughter is going into her junior year in HS. First year "coach" was a faculty member who told me out of her own mouth"I teach (my class) all day, I don't feel like going down there for another 3 hours".... And it showed. went 3 weeks in March WITHOUT practicing, took off during spring break... NO PRACTICE came back practiced one day and played a game. ................ Won 5 games..... 2 of those wins over 0 win last place Statesville. (One of them 7-6 in extra innings) We finished next to last.

Fast forward to this year... The Administration has the balls to hire what some here would call a "parent" or "daddy" . But those who follow the game think of it as a "coach, with a kid on the team instead of a "dad" with a kid on the team. Win more games than any other in school history. Win 3 games in the playoffs and were in the 4th inning of the 4 th game 0-0 with a birth in the final four in Raleigh in the grasp. Spirited practices, passion for the game, players held accountable, Players pushed to be as good as they can be, facilities upgrades, fan excitement, ..... New territory at our school. I'm sure there are varying opinions but to this parent .... I'll take our QUALIFIED parent over a faculty member (in softball) any day of the week. The numbers don't lie at our school. .

Just behind being a daddy, being a coach is the most rewarding experience one can have.

But it does come with the special challenges that have been mentioned in most of these posts. If you're coaching for the right reasons I salute you. You're going to make a lot of mistakes but if they're innocent mistakes your conscience should be clear. Those who are responsible for you, such as AD's and organization directors are the ones who need to evaluate your effect on the team, daddy or not.

Now, if you think daddy coaches may have challenges, consider what it must be like for mommy coaches. :stirthepot:

Uh-oh! I can hear it now, Who's your Momma? Who's your Momma?

You heard what the blond asked the doctor when she found out she was expecting? She asked him, Are you sure it's mine?

    DADDY COACH, HELLO

What about the MOMMA Coach? Although you guys have know idea how thankful this MOMMA COACH is for the many DADDY COACHES who have taken my DD under their wings and help make her not only a ballplayer, but have contributed to her life by being a postive male influence in her life. There are two main ones and you both know who you are, so pat yourself on the back you deserve it. GOD BLESS YOU.
