The old guys in europe add rugby (IOC President Rogge was a rugby player) and golf (they want the Tiger on TV . . . $$$). Also add several weight classifications of women's boxing . . . ain't that fun!

I just got back from watching my daughter play in Germany and the talk there (where governments support some softball in some countries) was for diminished support if softball was not reinstated.

On the positive side I don't see this impacting the popularity of the college game in the U.S. at all. I think it will continue will grow as facilities improve and fans find it a faster, better game than college baseball.

its always about the money... doesnt matter that its a great game.

softball stadiums are expensive to build and not well suited for other uses after the games have gone.. saw some pics of the stadium in Athens not long ago it was overgrown with weeds. Golf and rugby (not to justify it) dont have these issues.

be VERY thankfull for title 9 my friends!

    million dollars

If softball made multi-millions than it would always be on the list. Golf in 2016....in L.A at Pebble Beach... USA wins gold, silver and bronze...Yeah. But SB needs to be there also.

    That's sad.

We should just form a Softball Olympics. To be held every four years at the regular Olympics site. In between, we can have the Summer games.

Who needs 'em? We can do it ourselves!

Obviously I'm not happy with the news.
My question is this, how many sports or competions/events are in the olympics?
Is there some rule that was put in place in the 1800s that dictates that #?
As for rugby, to each his own, but I'd watch it.
As for golf, well golf is WAY OVER publicized. Its watered down.
And don't we already have a competition of the USA vs. the rest of the world, IE Ryder Cup?
Adding golf to the mix is a joke.
    Oh well, Fish:thumbsdown:

Seriously........no place for softball, yet we get treated to the likes of rowing? Curling? Whole lot of lame events that barely even qualify to be called a sport. It's sad.

...Curling is a cool thing to watch. No BS, yes its an odd event but if you take the time to look into things like what the stone is made out of or why the players slide their feet when they release the stone. How about the dude with the broom, sweeping his ass off to cause the stone to move into the circle.
On the surface this event sounds like a bunch of beer bellied bowlers hacking it up on the ice.
The neat thing to me is that even though curling is probably the most Nerd issued sport that I've ever looked at, its actually entertaining when you're sitting in the bar with a bunch of your friends.
