    National Championship Day...

    1pm- Medford,Or vs. Midland,Mi

2nd Game immediately following (if necessary)

*** Because Midland is undefeated in tourney, Medford must beat them twice.

ktownrocks, I hear ya, but whatever Rowan was trying to do in the situation you described,,, I have tried to 2nd guess Coach Gantt in the past, and I just can't. IMO he's just the best coach in this area, at every level, bar none,,,,, in fact theres a huge gap between he and whoever thinks they're 2nd, because nobody's close. One sign of great coaching is how well your team improves as the season progresses,,, Rowan teams always get stronger toward the end of summer. Gantt's players always know their roles and they are disciplined, always. I'm not sure where this Rowan team stacks up against other great teams in term of sheer talent (I know about the homeruns), but I do know that Coach Gantt is the reason this program wins championships. Some coaches are very good coaches, they just don't know how to win. With Gantt, he COMMANDS respect and full attention, and his attention to detail on the littlest things, is what wins ballgames. I know you and I agree on Gantt, just figured this was a good time to give him props, esp given his success this year.

As for the 2 runs allowed in that 7th inning that you speak about, they were huge no doubt, but I was always taught those 2 runs didn't beat Rowan no more than all those runs Rowan allowed back earlier in the game. In fact in the 3rd (I believe) if you field one routine groundball, you get out of the inning instead of giving up at least 2 more. I guess when you give up 15, you can have a lot of questions and situations you'd like to do over. I think everyone should get at least one "do over" per game, like in golf... :smiley2:

Congrats from a Cherryville Post 100 fan

Just wanted to take a moment and join Carolina Man in passing along my congratulations to the Rowan Co. team, their families, fans/supporters, and also the American Legion members in that area for making this '09 season "one to remember".

I can't imagine how disappointed they are right now, but, I just wanted to say that they should surely be proud of the way they represented their area (Area 3), the rest of North Carolina, and the Southeast U.S. in this Championship Tournament. #3 in all the land!

I wonder how many teams there were throughout the USA that began "legion ball" back in the spring?

They never quit!!!! I'm sure that they will come home with their heads held high.

Well put Nugget...The worst part of getting that close to the big prize is you don't ever get over it, but you learn to live on and grow to appreciate what a great team you was a part of and what a special summer of baseball you had together. It was a special summer for Rowan County. I take my hat off to all of Rowan County. I know you guys never wanted it to end.

Midland,Mich(54-8) are the 2009 National Champions, by defeating Medford,Or in today's championship game by a score of 11-4. Midland went thru the tourney undefeated,,, and Midland shortstop Jordan Dean was named tournament MVP.

Trey Holmes (Rowan Co) was the only Rowan player named to the All-Tournament team, and of course he was the first baseman.
