as you may be aware from a recent thread my son's team played in the LL (junior league) championship game of the SE regional at 14U....

there is pretty much zero tolerance for taking an ump to task.. even if its deserved. The whole LL montra is a "feel good" experience... pizza parties, swimming parties and all the teams in the same hotel at regionals.

as far as the HR's the nail has been hit on the head... you have kids who are 8 months older than they were just a few years ago playing 12U.. add composite bats to the mix and you have a lot of taters. Its basically a single or HR game at 46/60/200

They should consider changing the dimensions as Cal Ripken has done but that costs $$$$$$$...

ps: you know the other thing you have to consider is if you have a mike on and have a "meltdown" you are gonna be featured on sportscenter! :)

In Williamsport the fences are 225' all the way around. The regional sites haven't followed suit yet probably because of $$$

    I just wish

They would make em stay in the box, they step out forever after each pitch. And whats with all the signs on 0/2 and 1/2 counts with nobody on base, swing the dang bat.

I loved that loss by CA last night...that team from TX was straight LEGIT last night. Orestas is in love with the Mexico team and if I heard ONE more comment about how many HRs CA had hit up till then (while they were lossing last night) I was gonna wind up watching a rerun of Baywatch...

    strike zones are amazing!

I was watching the Japan vs. Mexico game this afternoon and I was amazed at how big the strike zone was. The pitcher from Mexico had a no-hitter going and 9 strikeouts thru 4 innings, with a lot of help from Mr. Blue. The umpire punched out one kid batting lefty on a pitch that was just inside the chalk for the right hand batter's box as shown from the straight-away centerfield camera..NO KIDDING!

LOL...I know..it's like everytime there's an obvious questionable call, one of the commentators will suddenly like to thank the hundreds of volunteers who make this possible, including the umpires, who graciously volunteer their time for this wonderful event.

(The whole time you know there are kids sitting at home watching that pitch, whom the umpire is their regular ump going "yeah, he always blows...calls")

I am going online immediately and filing an application for Stretchy to do the LL Big Show next year. Hey, maybe that's why Erin is NOT there... she heard the rumour that Stretchy and his Carnal Entourage was coming to town to call the games...

I know the pitch you were talking about. The lefthanded Japanese kid couldn't have foultipped that ball unless he was swinging a very long oar. And the thing I remember most is the announcers didn't even bat an eye about the call. I know the umps are volunteers but really, can't they get some decent training on calling balls and strikes? Umps make mistakes but pitches like that, well, really, there is no excuse for missing something that totally obvious.
