    ok a bit of plagerism here because I took this one from Bill James but there was a second baseman who played for the old Philadelphia A's by the name of Max Bishop. Max was a solid if unspectacular glove and really not much of a stick but boy could he work a walk.

    They called him Camera Eye...

    Adam Larouche

    They call him "3 second delay" because he pauses before replying ad even before laughing at a joke.

    Fun topic. From teams I've played on (most not appropriate to discuss publicly) but a couple of my favorites ;

    Puddenhead - frosh pitcher with last name Wilson

    GrandSlam - frosh pitcher who walks 1st 3 hitters in 1st college game, then gives up a grand salami

    Meat - enough said

    Big Unit - little man, if you are out there, perhaps you could enlighten us as to how he got that nickname ?

    I guess pitchers are just easy targets ...

    You know you've made it in the Big Leagues when Chris Berman assigns you a nickname: Jeff “When You're Having More Than One” Schaefer ...

    Not only nicknames - there are some great baseball names too...you gotta love Cleat Thomas. Think his parents were gunnin' for a baseball player?

    Hands down Cool Papa Bell best nickname. He was so fast, a ground ball he hit up the middle hit him in the ass as he rounded second base.

    oldies, but goodies

    Pete Rose "Charlie Hustle".....showed everyone on the field what extra effort could mean to an average ballplayer (raw skill assessment). I loved it when his aggressive turns at first base would often yield a scamper and head first slide into second base whenever there was the slightest mishandle in the outfield......the total antithesis of BJ Upton (who is back to his sloppy, lazy play again over the past few weeks)

    Ted Williams "The Kid" "The Splendid Splinter".....Bill Werber, the ex-major leaguer who just passed away this year at the age of 100, told me many stories of Ted Williams as a rookie with the Red Sox tormenting Werber's Reds during the many games they played during spring training in 1939. He said Williams was the best pure hitter he ever saw, and he played with Ruth, Gehrig, Foxx and many others from the Golden Age of baseball. He said Williams could adjust better than anyone and could get inside the heads of the opposing pitcher even as a rookie. Interesting note: Werber said with proper effort and self-discipline, Foxx could have been the best ever and amassed more records than Ruth. He was the youngest to 500 home runs at age 32 until A-Rod just broke that record (with some admitted help)

    Lee May (1B Cincinnati Reds) "Big Slam from Birmingham" Rhymes nice.......
