Simmons was the fastest player in history to 2000 hits but failed to make it to the magic 3000 number by only 73!

The roadrunner was Ralph Garr.... Youkilis is the Greek God of walks... I think "eggs" was Mickey Rivers... I am not sure about "dirt" it fits Dykstra but I know his nickname was nails

sorry my baseball nerdiness is coming out! :)

Nice job Low & Slow - John Odom was nicknamed Blue Moon - 200 Points

DingDingDingDingDingDing - Daily Double! Baseball Nicknames for 300!

Great subject by the way, it's fun remembering the oldtimers and the characters that made Baseball the great game that it is...But what if the nickname turns out not to be a positive on the players life....

100 points for Young Again - Oddibe McDowell
200 points for Blue Moon - John Odom

    Now "Daily Double" for 300:

    "Ten Bats"?

Am I on the Mensa website?

I thought that I may trip up people with that one....great job PT. Did you follow that story as well?

For those of you who are not aware of Ten Bats - it is a totally different John Odom. It is also a tragic story and how a nickname can destroy a young man.

Have a good time researching this one and maybe we can all learn something from this...

    Now back to the fun...

    Nicknames.......

Growing up a few I remember:

    Dave Parker "The Cobra"
    Gary Mathews Sr. "Sarge"
    Greg Luzinski "The Bull"
    Dave Kingman "King Kong"
    Al Hrabosky "The Mad Hungarian"

Also, what was Willie Stargell's nickname? And Willie McCovey?

Willie Stargell was Pops and Willie McCovey was Stretch. Don't forget Hammerin Hank Aaron. Do anyone remember Felix " The cat" Milan former Braves second baseman.

    He was a trip.

Oh I've got more fun to poke but I'll just stop for the good of the thread.
