    Good Post

Fish, good points! On the softball point, every team in every sport, at every level must have reserves! That said there will be players on the bench! If you want to play, work harder, be a leader, support your team mates, listen to coaches and always work on your weaknesses!
Study hard and prove you can be an athlete and a great student, it can be done if you are organized and willing to give a little extra.
    Hail to the FISH!

    what....??

    Let's be gentle here.....
We actually travel around the country also...have team doctors with real degrees.... Vans and Buses with the same size tires,... have a stadium with dirt and dugouts and bases, with a scoreboard that actually lights up with this thing called electricity....and we let our kids register early for classes also.... where they study and get real degrees actually printed on paper....and then go on to masters and doctorate programs at places like UNC, NCSU, Harvard, etc....

Some of these little schools have names like MIT, Vassar, Smith, Davidson,
RPI, Emory, Tufts, Carnegie Mellon, Williams, as well as Meredith and Peace
    here locally.

Playing on a softball team ( or sitting the bench on a softball team)at a big university or a small private college has nothing to do with the value of the education you receive or don't receive..

Also... didn't your wife graduate from that little college downtown Raleigh..
she has a pretty good job....

My new name Lilwndmillr... so I can hang with my little fishes..

If you graduate with your AA degree all credit hours will transfer to the four year school. You spend so much time with your teammates that they become your best friends at your school. Juco's are a great option.

I agree with Charlie. My DD attends a DII school and could have gone anywhere. She has started every game for 3 years and is getting an outstanding education. They actually have a nice bus (imagine that) and have played teams like Georgia, Louisville, NC State and so on. No matter the size of the school you can 1. get a good education 2. get to play a lot and even on a nice field 3. and make life-long friends.

    a few thoughts....

-the diploma may count for a bit more but in general that is overrated. You all the time hear the refrain... a degree from _______ is your ticket.

    - the advantage in going to a so called elite school is the networking opportunities it affords you after graduation... assuming you get out of your dorm room and make some friends while you are there. Where I graduated from there were 11 in the same fraternity graduating class. 7 went on to law school, 2 went on to medical school, one went into the military and ended up being Army chief of staff in Afghanistan and one went into his family's business that had been around for 100 years. This was not an elite type of school in the sense of a Harvard or Stanford but you get the idea. As some know it has been my daughter's dream to attend an Ivy league school. I have encouraged her in this not because of the sheepskin but because she will meet people who will be shakers and movers on a planetary scale after they graduate. This is just a fact. No slight is intended. There is no price tag you can affix to such a thing but she must develop those relationships while she is there.

    - Ray Chandler gave some of the best advice... "don't let softball decide where you go to school". Too many loose sight of this IMO.

    - one last thing... even with all the above when you get the job you still have to perform.

ps: maybe this wasn't implied but i don't believe Davidson, Carnegie Melon and Vassar have FP varsity programs... we have researched them all. :)

...where in my post did you get the idea that the Fishman inferred that the education at any of these schools held less value?

    Define Stadium v. Field

    Not true at all

An AA doesn't guarantee transfer of credit. Try to transfer 60 hours of credit from John Doe CC to Princeton or Duke. Even with an AA it won't happen. I'm not saying CC aren't a good choice for some . . . I endorsed them in my original post. I am saying that many kids (athletes and non-athletes alike) are disappointed when they find out that all their hours won't transfer. Some CC's in Florida actually give academic credit for playing sports, including softball but don't try counting these toward a degree at most top notch four year schools.
