Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Middle School Sports

All CMS Middle Schools play softball in the fall at the same time as volleyball. The girls have to choose to play one or the other.

Fall Sports -

Volleyball, Softball, Football, Golf, Cheerleading

Winter Sports -

Boy's and Girl's Basketball

Spring Sports -

Baseball, Boy's and Girl's Soccer, Boy's and Girl's Track

Union County schools play middle school softball in the spring as do most of the private and charter middle schools.

 

Davidson County middle schools:

Fall: Football, Softball
Winter: Basketball (B & G)
Spring: nothing

Oh, of course there's cheerleading.

gaston basically has 4 seasons for middle school. so girls can actually play both vb and sb in the fall.

cheeze - unfortunately - the 2nd pitcher for southwest is actually a 7th grader going to forestview - i work with her mom and shes the reason i went to that game. (and ng was at kings mtn and i didnt have time to get up there)

 

This post is rather funny, the reason being, that a lot of middle schools do play in the fall and most of them are wishing they played in the spring..

 

In Davidson County, the high school, middle school, and travel ball programs work closely together. This has helped raise the level of play around here. 2A Central Davidson, 4A North Davidson, and 3A Ledford are all perpetual powerhouses. 2A East Davidson and West Davidson, and 1A South Davidson are greatly improved in recent years. If middle school played in the spring, the coordinated effort that is now possible between high school and middle school coaching staffs would not be possible because of conflicting schedules. Systems that play MS in the spring are putting their high schools at a disadvantage. Those MS programs that wish they played in the spring probably don't have much of a relationship with their high school programs.

 

What effect, if any, do dead periods have on teams that play in the fall?

 

Explain yourself a little, but as far as playing middle school ball in the fall, there is no conflict. unless you are speaking of tb.

Randolph County also plays MS ball during the fall. One of our factors would also be that some of the schools share the same fields, so it works out well for us.
