Alex Baker commits to Georgetown

    Alex Baker, Ardrey Kell RH pitcher, has committed to play at Georgetown following his 2010 senior season.

    Congratulations to Alex and his family.

    It was hard to be quiet about this commitment. Alex Baker is a very unique young man. Many players’ names get posted on here and we rejoice in their success. However, in most cases we don’t get an opportunity to learn more about the young man other than where he is attending school.

    In Alex’s case, his success demands attention. Although he is a supremely talented pitcher, he puts the “student” in student athlete. The academically gifted young man had many opportunities to choose from, but he is one of those few students that know what he wants to do after completing his studies and hanging up his spikes. Alex is a born leader with strong charisma. His peers, as well as adults, are drawn to his natural personality and are amazed by his uncommon maturity. To me he is the “Bill Bradley” of baseball.

    Alex will have many choices and paths to choose from later in his life, but I’m convinced he has already mapped out his future and there was a strong reason why he chose Georgetown. Alex’s future will include being a Senator representing the great state of North Carolina. What better place for him to get started then going to a school a few minutes from the White House.

    If you get an opportunity to see Alex play baseball, make an effort to meet him. You will leave being impressed with a special young man...hmm...Senator Baker...that has a nice ring to it.

    What a wonderful honor for a great kid and family. Alex works so hard on baseball, to be able to also carry the GPA he carries is a tremendous accomplishment.

    At any other school, he is the # 1 starter, he just happens to attend a wonderful high school with a state championship team and state championship academics. The Knights could probably take their # 3, 4 and 5 starters and win most conference championships. His summer baseball has always been a success and I bet he plays a bigger role for the Knights this season. Alex never gives up and always wants to do better, the mark of a winner.

    Good job Baker family!

    Way to go Alex!!! Congratulations Jeff & Judy! I agree with Braves. Alex is such a great kid and truly is charismatic. Senator Baker does have a nice ring! Awesome achievement, Alex!
