I saw a mention in another thread about how someone's #3 could be most's #1. Got me thinkin', who will be some of the top pitching staff's in the state next year? Who goes 3-4 deep? All you really need is 2-3 studs to be successful, but who is loaded?

I'll throw one out there to get it started.

Green Hope High School (4A, Tri-9 Conference)
1- Joe Pistacchio - SR (Good leader, Upper 80's, good off-speed)
1- Adam Boghosian - SR (Touches 91, Upper 80's consistent)
    1- Max Povse - JR (6'8" and growing, mid-upper 80's and rising)
2- Daniel Sondag - SR (Would be a lot of folks' #1, Doesn't get many looks with the three horses in front of him, but he knows how to pitch)

They have 3 sure-fire #1s on their staff. Should be very competitive in '10.

Around here, Christian will be deep, Butler has an under-appreciatted staff, Ardrey Kell will be deep with the addition of a new player from GA.. They can throw, Ryan Butler, Ashton Lover, two kids that have wins in STate CHampionship Series. They can add in Nick Forst, Alex Baker and the new player, Alex Leach is a lefthander that also pitches, I have hears, then they have Austin Machicote and a couple of junior starters coming up from JV. Granted all of them will not touch the mound this season, but lots of talent.

Marvin Ridge should have a good staff as well. Providence loses Richie Shaffer, but have good JV talent to go with Seminuk,

This area may not have the names it had last year with Shaffer, Luke Bard and Alex Wood, but there are plenty of D1 starters in a 20 mile zone and I apologize for any names I left off, I am sure I forgot some

J F Webb should be very solid and deep on the mound this years.

    #1

    Rocky Mount

    Hobbs Johnson - UNC
    Benton Moss - UNC
    Parker Helms
    Matthew Berry
    Jeremy Trevathan

Until I see something better its not even close.

Green Hopes is solid JM15 but those numbers are much higher than I had in the spring. But I guess they could have made a jump since then.

Rocky Mount has a lot of talent on the mound.

    1.Hobbs Johnson(Sr.)-Lefty commited to UNC...mid-upper 80's with exceptional command of 3 pitches.

2.Benton Moss(Jr.)-Tall, lanky righty that is commited to UNC as well...potential for this kid is through the roof, especially with his unmatched work ethic...has touched 90 if not higher recently with steadily improving off speed pitches.

3.Parker Helms(Sr.)-Quirky delivery and arm action, but has been a very effective pitcher in the past, though his innings were limited on varsity last year behind Johnson, Moss, and Nick Hahula. Also a very good infielder.

4.Matthew Berry(Jr.)-This kid is an ace pitcher for many teams in the state when healthy. Hard, sinking fastball with a good breaking ball. If his arm is better this year, watch out for him.

5.Spencer Bell(Sr.)-Injuries have plagued Spencer since he has been in high school, so is impact on the team has been limited. Had a great summer for Rocky Mount's Jr. Legion team. Strike thrower with a good change up.

Also, watch out for freshman lefty Jeremy Johnson. Most of the year will likely be spent on the JV team, but you could hear his name on the varsity level by the end of the year. Have only seen him a few times, but it looks like to me he is going to be the next stud to come out of the Rocky Mount area.

    Let me rephrase that

I am sure there are some other very good staffs out there. In fact I know there are. So to say its not even close , well its too early to make that kind of statement. But a one two punch at the top like that with the quality depth behind those two guys makes this staff very very good.

I have seen most if not all of the guys from Rocky Mount and Green Hope pitch. I would have to say it is a toss up. Green Hope has 3 guys who have proven themselves at the Varsity level. Rocky Mount has 2 great ones in Johnson & Moss but unproven at the other spots. But when it comes right down to it, I want that proven #3 guy to get me outs and get the job done when the other guy is not having one of his better games. But with all things equal, it is still a toss up in my mind between those staffs.

Everybody knows how good Benton Moss & Hobbs Johnson are. Both are excellent, and going to UNC. I agree with SoutherNo1, Parker Helms is a very effective thrower. I've seen him pitching with the Wilson Bulldogs and he's going to be a huge player for Rocky Mount next spring. He plays several positions well, and also can knock the cover off the ball. Just an all-around good player. He may be the guy that takes over the shortstop position, since Dillon Cockrell just graduated. Time will tell. But, back to the question: Rocky Mount is loaded with quality pitching!

I have watched Jeremy Johnson pitch since he was in midget league. He understands at an early age how to pitch. He comes from a baseball family with an older brother and father who could play. He could be very good down the road.

Moss hit 92 recently from what I hear. He and Hobbs Johnson could very well be the best 1 and 2 in the state.
