VTD started 12 years ago working with Girl’s Fastpitch Softball and decidedly sought out ASA Associations around the country to work with in making the sport better with technology. VTD managed over 4,200 tournaments and over 280,000 registrations in 2009. Beginning November of 2009, VTD will be separating from ASA to form a new organization. The primary reason for the separation is that ASA wants to bring the services “in-house” that VTD has provided for the past years.

We are actually excited about the separation because it gives us the ability to start a new organization! This concept was formed from people around the country that know there is a better way to serve the sport of softball. The primary philosophy behind VTD is that we are a service organization and not a governing body. The board of this organization will be run by VTD commissioners around the country.

Most youth sports organizations were started by some great people with some great ideas. The problem that has developed over the years is that those same people that are no longer involved with the coaches are the ones making decisions about the sport. The difference that we are going to make is based on the decision that once you are no longer involved with the teams, you can no longer be involved in the sport as a commissioner.

VTD will be what it always has been with a few extras that will be of no additional charge. Registrations will be on an individual basis and include the following:

    - College Recruiting
    - Video Training – for coaches, players and league administrators.
    - Insurance – accidental and liability
    - Tournament Hosting via fastpitchsoftball.net
    - ID Cards & Background Checks
    - National Championship Events

We have several people across the country that have committed to the success of this organization and we are searching for others that are ready to serve as a commissioner of VTD. The requirements are that you are actively involved in fastpitch softball and you have the time available to invest in marketing the program in your local area.

If you are ready to join us in this exciting opportunity that will be rewarding both emotionally and financially, please forward a resume along with references to [email protected].

i cant help but continue to think that this borders on spam. vtd did background checks for asa, this i know, but if this is an advertisement for college recruiting services or the sale of training videos, this will be deleted. so my question is: is vtd holding tournaments and what sanctioning body will this be?????

    anyone??

    A New Sanctioning Body

Based on conversations I've had with Allen, VTD is in the process of starting a new organization. They have been handling ASA's registrations for several years. Their contract was not renewed with ASA (a point that I have issues with) and they have been a very good partner to NC ASA. They will now be in direct competition with NSA, ASA, USSSA, and all the other "???SA's".

Agreed, and not sure that is a good thing.

On the WestCoast we use VTD all the time, had to go through them just to get your card. it was fine and very useful for tourneys, but do we really need another org? In addition, the part that says they are a service org, and not a governing body, that seems odd to me. I mean, somebody's got to run the rules and the like.

    NO need

Let's not water down the associations as well! I see no need for VTD unless they are going to provide a superior product.:civilwar:

    why not

I personally don't know what you are scared of here? From my view if they can offer a better product why not. Just as NSA took over USSSA in this area and ASA appears to be doing to NSA; maybe this VDT was the brains of the ASA and feel they can do it better. Things can be done better. Travel ball is a very lucrative product for these ASA and NSA directors as well as there sanctioning bodies and we still see fields not drug, dirty bathrooms as well as poor prize packages. If they cant live up to what they promise they will die out (wfc).

    no one is scared

No one is scared, simply giving my opinion based on watching what you have just pointed out, the rise and fall of sanctioning bodies. More is not always better and if you want change or feel ASA or NSA does not provide what you want, let them know! I am sure Howard, Rick, and Tony as well as others in leadership roles will listen and if your ideas are helpful, will put them in use.
Many complexes that are used by ASA and NSA control the equipment used to drag fields and prepare them for play. It can be out of hands of organization running the tourney and therefore we all suffer. All of us would love to play on top notch fields all the time but does not always happen. Both teams have play under same conditions, play ball!

    asa not at it best

The fall state played this weekend was a mess, that is putting it nice. The play should have been called. The fields were very wet and not safe for the young ladys. The park in Burlington should have been shut down, but was not. When the game comes to make a dollar , and forgets the girls and their future, then maybe we need someone new in the area.

I normally write about football, but I'm looking to get into covering softball more. What to these recruiting type of services do for girls? In my experience of coaching, if you're good enough, you don't have to pay a service, the colleges will find you.
