Luis walking up to the field to see me and my partner umpiring for the very first time and my partner tossing a coach "friend" of mine and the coach going off like a rocket blasting into the moon......and I end up getting the blame. All because my partner wanted to impress King Luis.......unreal day!!!!

    AAU Tourney in Concord

My son's teams and the opposing team are lined up down the foul lines and it comes across the loud speaker to rise for the national anthem. The announcer then said the words " Singing the Star Spangled Banner will be Lauren Roberts" ........ Seeing my son's team turn and look to the press box and my son's face become a nice shade of pink was priceless........ ok I may be biased ..... but her rendition knocked it out of the park........ I have had many tourney memories with my son and many more but this one I had both of my kids on center stage together so I guess that is why it sticks in my mind

    A while back.

JB tells some of the other players on the other team, "Im going to hit a home run."

Kinda of like one of those "point to right" kinda of things.

JB tells this to the other players AND Coaches, in the dugout, AND fans in the seats. HE had a big mouth. But this young man could flat out play and fish if I may say so.

He is up to bat and blasts one. 14 y/o and just completely kills it. One of those up and up and up and "I can't see it anymore" shots. Gone beyond what anyone would have thougth any 14 y/o could do.

How far? Good 365 in my book. At least 340.

What Stretchy failed to mention is both my son and I attended that game. Not long after arriving Stretchy had tossed the coach. My son turned to me and asked, 'Pop...does he do this a lot?" I turned to him and said, "Yes, son....every game!":spacecraft:

There are lots of great stories.

One time our team was in the championship game on a Sunday. We where playing up. AAA team against a mighty MAJ team in travel ball. We had played some MAJs teams and they had tore us up sort of. Well our boys had been playing really well and we opt for an "open" tournament. Team had done that before. You have to test yourself.

So our starting pitcher has this game locked up for 6 and 1/2 innings. We elect to close with our ace. The starting pitcher is fine but we choose caution. Game was 4-3 I believe.

2 on base with their 5th or 6th hitter up. 1 on 2 outs. Their last at bat.

Kid hits behind runners and drops it in the right corner. 1 run scores. 2 run scores. Game over.

That was a gutsy game by that team that one. They didn't quit. We didn't either but as coaches sure didn't help.

The starter told me after the game that he could have finished the game easily.
