I suggest that everyone stick to NC NSA. They have personnel that are capable of scheduling and running tournaments in an orderly manner, rain or shine!

First of let me say that when it rains it is a nightmare for any director, team, coach or parent.
It don't matter if it is NSA, ASA, AAU they have alot to deal with, and the parks control alot of what goes on when it rains. Some them will not allow you to play on the fields at all. So that needs to be taken into consideration.
I have been to alot of showcases in many states and if it rains there are NO REFUNDS given back.
When you play showcases that is what happens, its not like a regular tournament.
For the most part NC NSA directors have played when they can in the rain. I am not sure but I think this is a SC NSA event not NC.

You are right sball53. This was a SC NSA event. That why I posted that everyone stick to NC NSA. I realize that it's a nightmare when it rains during a tournament. I just think the SC NSA officials could have handled it differently. I really don't know what happened, because I wasn't there. I only know what I read. What I do know is there was lots of money and time involved in the teams that traveled to Rock Hill to play softball, and didn't get to play not 1 game.

Rain is tough but we were able to go back today and got in three games. so it was not all that bad the way it shook out, at least for the teams that went back today.

Except that there were no players from Winthrop or College of Charleston to be assigned to teams! This was the whole premise behind this tournament was it not??? College players helping out each team, being there to answer questions about what its like to play at the next level, etc. So in my opinion, they failed miserably!
We, as a team will NEVER play this tournament again and hopefully never in anymore of this director's tournaments either!

Im sure they would love to have you help out next year and help things run more smoothly.Until we step up to the plate and attempt to run a tournament let's give the director a break.Sit back and put yourself in there shoe's and think how would you of handled it?There isn't anything you can do about mother nature but deal with it.Really the only thing I see that would have saved a lot of heart ache and complaining would have been to cancel the tournament all together.Let's just be happy the "GIRLS" were able to get some ball in this weekend.

Hopefully there won't be a next year for this tournament...but if I did run it, it wouldn't take much to improve on this year's performance! When it's a cluster, you can only go up from there!
And no break deserved. You set yourself up as a tournament director and you screw it up, then be prepared to take the criticism or get out of the businesss! I am happy that the girls got to play; it's just not right to have to pay $300 for a few scrimmage games!!

    Suggestion

Why not, if you are NSA or even ASA, set up an advisory board of travel coaches, say five to provide feedback on tournament set-ups, weather issues, types of tourneys, showcase, elimination, combines, etc. If you have set parameters for handling issues, you at least will be consistent in management and protect the young ladies. Now I understand you can not cover every issue but with feedback from the travel team community, you can lessen the issues as directors will follow a procedure that all sides have discussed and hopefully agreed upon.:dunce2:
