Some suggest the most sage advice to hitting a curveball is to not miss the fastball, but I'd like to hear what you guys do to help teach a player to hit a curveball...or if you are a player, what has worked best for you.

Finally...someone knows how to hit it:pepper: I was beginning to believe no one knows how.

I don't know what happened to all the baseball guru's that used to love to comment on these type posts.

Man, curveballs must really be impossible to hit. This is the first time I've ever seen TBR posters unable to provide some helpful advice. At the least, we could get into an argument about whether legion or showcase players learn to hit breaking balls more efficiently. :argue:

Judging by the responses, college recruiters and mlb scouts can throw away the radar gun and just see who throws the most/best curves since no-one knows how to hit them.

You will not get many repsonses because there are so many nuances (sp) and things to consider when talking about hitting a breaking ball. This is a subject you cannot due justice in a 3-liner on TBR.

    -Excellent vision
    -Balanced hitting stance
-concentration... seeing the ball well & tracking the ball
-Knowing the pitching chart in your dugout.
-Pitch selection based on the actual count.
-Studying the pitchers motion while not at bat... release point, finger
    location
    -Picking up the ball early
    -on and on and on

Learning to hit the curveball is easy...... Do it over and over and over and over. You will not learn to hit these pitches by reading about it in a book, you just have to see it as many times as possible- recognize it early and let your physical skills take over.

    I'll shut up now.

Finally, a good start for discussion.

How many times does a hitter see cb's during bp or in the cage. That's a good place to practice picking it up.

Here's what brought me to this question. I see very few HS pitchers with even a decent cb, yet hitters either chase them or let the hangers go. It forces me to conclude that most don't know how to hit them.
