Since when does Daddy Ball have any kind of morality? What kind of stuff do you guys smoke? The only acts of kindness you better be teaching kids I would hope is off the field, because otherwise your going to get beat. Pat a kid on the back for a job well done while your DD takes her place on the roster.

Maybe this will help clear the fog. What you should be doing as a Coach is let your kids and your family know they are special everyday, and if you are thinking about quiting and you have to read a feel good story to keep you motivated you've got some problems. If it's not there, it's not there.

Good deeds, feel good, something nice for someone? That's all well and good. I get that, but when you're playing ball there is no mercy, except that rule of course. Good sportsmanship included.

If you're saying you can't play the game to the fullest using good sportsmanship then I believe you don't really understand sportsmanship.

I believe a player can play the hardest, dirtiest, most intense game they want to within the rules and still walk off the field a sportsman. Not necessarily a happy sportsman but a sportsman nevertheless.

The competitors are not enemies, they are competitors. Fight as hard as necessary but don't forget it's a game and without the other team there is no one to play.

Making someone feel good, treating someone with respect, is not a weakness--it's the complete opposite of weakness.

We were playing in Charlotte some years ago. My DD was catching. The other team had a runner try to score from 3rd on an infield hit. The throw to the plate was so early that the player coming from 3rd slowed almost to a walk and at the last second sped up and flattened my DD. My DD held onto the ball for the out.

When that batter came up her next at bat I thought, OK, now she'll pay. But it didn't happen.

I asked my DD after the game why she didn't bean her. She said because we only had a one-run lead. THAT'S sportsmanship!

It was truly a heart warming story.
Something I will always remember and pass on.
I hope some of the negativity from other posters
subside and they actually read with there heart and
realize the true meaning of this story.

Wow. It seems you are still in your playing days. Let it go. It is about the girls now. Rodney and the other coaches have the perspective that they want to beat everyone but if it is not to be they move on. You might need to watch some of the guys that have been around awhile. The good times, sweet moments, lasting memories etc. last a lot longer then beating the hell out of someone. I remember the great games that we probably lost more then the games we totally dominated someone. Oh by the way we were very successful with this formula.....

Viking, I appreciate your thoughts. I put the story truth or fiction as a reminder that we all touch lives of people daily and we have options on how we are remembered. I have failed at times to do the things I should for people I have met and hope that in the future, I do a better job.
Look I am very competitive! I hate to lose and will do my best to win every game, however win or lose when it is over, we shake hands with the other team and let them know we enjoyed our battle. It was not a war and they are not our enemies. Well there are some teams, ha ha just kidding!
As the holiday season is upon us, it should remind us that all year long we are called to be brothers and sisters to all and to serve in every way!
Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas to ALL!

Trying to pass it off as a true story is just not right. Personally it takes a little of the feel good feeling away when you know it is a lie.
