......hey Duke, with respect to this thread I'd like to post a reply to your post. No slander to you whatsoever.
As for "meal $" on the road".....if you're on the travel squad of a team, its makes no difference if you're an invited walk-on or rocking with a new BMW on a full ride.
As for "not paying for bats, shoes, gear, underamour, etc. ...the entire team gets the same gigs. And BTW, they get some cool stuff.
As for "free medical", I know that you know whats up and I'll just leave that alone other than to say that if a kid is sick and she plays ball, she doesn't go to the university infirmary. All athletes are granted this perk.
As for "summer school", ie classes maybe paid for, you're right again, and I think thats cool. I know an athlete does not have to get a full ride to get summer school money.

Now, about out of pocket money from Mom and Dad......don't forget Grandmama and Grandaddy!

Groceries, Gas, "personal" money, .....and I can go on and on with the little stuff that adds up.

As for "athletes don't have time for a social life"?????????????????

.........shhhhh, they were in the library studying, but they charged $40 bucks on your card for pizza and O'duels?

    Nevermind that $25 parking ticket.

I hope the kids have a blast!

    All true

I was just reacting to the suggestion that parents of kids on full rides still had significant expenses. They shouldn't. As you point out, even the partial kids are pretty well taken care of.

Bottom line is that a full ride is probably worth at least $70K for an in-state public institution and $100K for a similar school out of state . . . . and remember that's after-tax value.
