Now, back to the subject...A,B,C players and team make up

This is from a old country boys perspective.
I have all three groups working for me and I would say, I have all three playing for me.
Each has a place in this world.
If we all were the A's we thought we were...(I want got there)
I find that if players are properly motivated they can achieve what they wish. Granted the level of success may be different, but still successful in relative terms.
You don't have to be real smart to get a college education and have someone pay a portion of it for you. I have some of those working for me. And, just look at the "professionals" playing in the NFL, MLB, Golf, ect... who are supposed to be college "educated" and the "real deals".
You don't have to be real smart to play softball competitively. I did it. That in itself proves that point!
You do however have to give your best effort, whatever level that may be, to work or play for me.
My dad told me 'what ever you do, do it will all you got". The Bible says "with all your heart, and all your mind".
I have proven that we can win with a mix of all three. Do I keep the C player all the time. No. With the level of competition we play, they usually cut themselves.
Likewise, I have let a few A players walk for one reason or another. The usual issue is, they were an A on another team and when they come with us find they are not the A player they thought they were.
Give me a lot of B's and I'll win with them. They are usually the most consistent at the plate, in the field and in their demeanor.
Realistically, I would consider myself a high B, other than the praise part. I don't need a lot of that.
I usually surround myself with a few A's and a lot of B's, a few C's and do well with them.
My whole point to all this rambling is, we all have a place in this world or in this sport.
We all need to give our best, 100% of the time, whatever our best may be.

Rodney, thanks for the initial post. It is a good read.
All the crap arfterwards is just all us "people being people". Seems ain't none of us too bright sometimes.

I believe most of the "C's" play for 2 reasons.. One is that someone is influencing them to play; whether that be a dad, coach, friend, or all the above. Another is that they like the thought of a competitve sports but would rather not do the work. "C's" would best benefit recreation teams.

I think the "C" personality play ball primarily for the social aspect.
I still do not see how anyone can justify how a C will round out a team.

As it relates to HS ball, I can understand why you may have to keep them but I ma not sure that they benefit the team unless you just dont have enough players.

knew we could count on card buddy to get us back on track! I think most players will fall into the A,B,or C slot , sometimes a player comes along with the A ability and the B attitude .WE all teach our kids to be respectful, kind ,work hard, 100% effort, get better ,etc ,and when its all said n done you will be noticed and rewarded for your ability. ( You know, the shut up n play ball mentality). not always so! Sometimes that player that dont demand thespotlight so to speak just might be the one who has self satisfaction when she comes off the field sprinting n smiling when they strike out the # 4 batter with her new and improved changeup or the kid who has an on base % of 550 for the weekend and you add up the stats n say " wow, i didnt know she was on base that much".always staying under the radar because of that B attitude. Great initial post but there always seems to be some variations.

    WOW! LET THEM PLAY!

4 pages of this crap? "A" type personality, or "B" type attitude, or "ABC" talent level?

This is easy, ....parents and coaches have got to make the game fun for the kids or they'll waltz their "as ya'll call it" bad attitude, or B personality elsewhere.

I finally sat down and read all of this... now my head hurts!

I do think one can get in trouble when one tries to put labels on others... sometimes they just won't stick.

    Hey Marlinfan,

It appears that a lot of TBRers were very interested in the discussion that Rodney started. Just take a look at how many posts were filed under this thread. If you have a problem with reading all the "crap" as you call it, then just leave the thread alone and place your opinions somewhere else.
