    Alumni???

Whats the real meaning of "Alumni"? A guy from Georgia plays a week with you and he is alumni? A player jumps on an airplane and throws a weekend for you in Marietta and he is alumni? Or a guy plays about 3 weekends with you as a rising SOPHOMORE, gets peeved about lack of playing time and quits and joins other teams for the next 2-1/2 years...is he alumni just because he played a few games for you then commits to a D1 school? Would this same kid get any ink and listed as alumni if he ended up going to law school or whatever and never played again?

So many people are misinformed and get caught up in these numbers. To know the TRUE story you have to read inside these reports and see that a lot of these "numbers" are are just plain ridiculous. Just bragging rights to make an organization or individual look magical.

I couldn't agree more with this post. Bringing in a bunch of mercenaries to a national tournament and then calling them your own does not a program make. Neither does having a revolving door with players coming in and out so fast that it makes your head spin. :dizzy2:

For me, the fact that the SC Panthers consistently play with their own guys, compete and win at the highest levels with those guys, help their players sign with colleges that fit their skill level, limit their focus to true Showcase ball (they start with 16U), have almost all their players return to continue playing with them, and run a first class organization from soup to nuts, makes them pretty hard to beat.

exactly right. A few of the top teams previously mentioned are like this. They will also spit you out as fast as they take you. And tell you that if your part of the organization were family. bigger organizaations have no loyality.

The event is later in the summer. The details will be posted later, but I can say this with complete confidence... it will be an historical event

    Yawn... it's that time again...

I know of one that very likely would not have signed with a DI program if he hadn't played for the Dirtbags... and he is my son, and that proves the value of showcase ball in our house!

For those that don't believe in showcase, or don't like the showcase concept, no one is forcing it on you, so don't complain about it! For the folks who have been around here a while this annual "discussion" is sometimes entertaining, but mostly it gets tiresome.

It don't get tiresome. This is great you get others opinions about the subject matters and discuss about it. This is fun. Look how many hits this subject has had the most of any post. That speaks for itself.

Yeah, most of the people that have been around for years tend to forget that we get a new influx of members each year. That's why I don't mind covering the same subjects.

But why the old timers sometimes get frustrated is when they see a subject that has come up in the past and watch it go down in flames....again. This isn't one of them, but all you have to do is bring up the "hot issues" and watch it fly.

I never mind hot issues bring discussed as long as players, parents or coaches don't get singled out. Somebody always gets hurt...and then it takes me days to resolve the conflicts.

There are some organizations, like On Deck, that don't keep a record of wins/losses because that's not what they are about. Places like OD, Greensboro and CBC are year long academy's designed to improve skills and aid in acquiring scholly's. Impact's DB's have a different mission. AP wants to attract the best players he can find to represent his company. Although players on the dirtbags will improve, AP makes no claims other than he wants the best he can get.....so his payers tend to already be developed and the radar shining brightly. But make no mistake....if Andy Partin makes a call to a coach and recommends a player, you better believe that coach is listening. What most people don't know is that AP has helped many kids outside his program---many, many kids. The climate in showcase had changed a good bit over the years and I'm sure Andy doesn't get as involved in other players lives from other teams as he used to; but I know of many kids throughout the years that he has helped who never played for him...including mine!
