Erwin vs McDowell has been called off until Tuesday...all the other MAC games scheduled for today will be played Monday. An AD's meeting will be tomorrow to determine the fate of the MAC Conf. Tourney.

The weather does not exactly look great for Monday either...what a crazy winter it has been around here.

It was close I think Hickory was ahead by 3. The news is now the nw4a tourney may be canceled to allow for all the teams to finish the regular season as some other games haven't been played yet. A decision is to be made tomarrow

I can only assume that they were concerned about a lot of teenage drivers making it home safely. Probably a good decision.

If there weren't the teenage aspect to driving in snow, I would agree to keep playing. However, I would appreciate the caution if my child had to drive home.

    Updated MAC Standings...

    McDowell (4A): 10-1, 21-1
    AC Reynolds (4A): 10-1, 16-2
    North Buncombe (3A): 6-5, 16-5
    Erwin (3A): 5-5, 15-5
    TC Roberson (4A): 4-7, 10-12
    Asheville (3A): 3-8, 10-10
    Enka (3A): 0-11, 4-19

As I have said in an earlier post, the constant winter weather could possibly put the MAC tourney at risk of being called off. Therefor the state playoff seedings would be done by the regular season standings. This conf. gets 2 automatic bids in both the 3A and 4A bracket. Given the scheduled games left, it's very possible that both the 3A and 4A seedings would come down to a tiebreaker of common opponents and in the occasion of 4A, a coin flip.

I'm betting the NCHSAA would not alter their schedule to allow a few of the West Region schools to have a conf. tourney.

I just saw where they cancelled the Hickory-SC game for the night and the conference tournament begins tomarrow. What is the reason for that can't be weather this time been beautiful here since 9:00. Did they just decide it was meaning less. I really would have liked to seen the finish of this one it was off to a great start

Apparently, the conference AD's met Sunday and decided to end the regular season, canceling any remaining games, in order to get the conference tournament in. Frustrating, especially for the coaches, but what can you do? Watauga ended up getting shorted two very winnable home games, including Senior night against Foard.

As for the conference tourney, Watauga girls are SUPPOSED to host Foard Tues. @ 4:30 & the men will host after that (S. Caldwell, I believe). If Foard actually decides to show up this time, the Seniors will have their time of recognition then. Don't think anyone is going to be surprised, though, to see them back out yet again. Why not when it's already been decided that the game will be played at a neutral site off the mountain in the event of inclement weather??? Catawba Co.... ridiculous.

The vote at the AD meeting ended with a 6-1 vote. South Caldwell placed the only vote to play the games. It seems some schools didn't not want to have the potential of playing 4 games this week.

it came down to the fact that if watauga were to run the tournament schedule they would play 5 games in 5 days which is against NCHSAA regulations.

in addition to that there has been snow each of the last 3 days up in boone and watauga is out of school again today. they AD's wanted to get the conference tournament instead of finishing the regular season, and seeded the tournament on the standings as is.

the tourney lineup looks like this...(as of now...if Watauga can't play then the entire tournament moves to a Wednesday start)

    Tuesday

    #7 Hibriten @ #2 Hickory
    #6 Alexander Central @ #3 St. Stephens
    #5 Fred T Foard @ #4 Watauga

    Wednesday

    Semifinals
Hibriten/Hickory winner vs. Alexander Central/St Stephens winner
Fred T Foard/Watauga winner vs. #1 South Caldwell

    Friday

    Conference Championship Game
