Helping Parents With College Plans?

Sorry that I confused you. I don't know of any scouting company that promotes players (not to be confused with a recruiting company). I was referring to former professional scouts that have recently started private evaluations. But the subject really wasn't about professional scouts, per se, as much as finding a qualified person in the softball side that could do this. I know there is not anybody that does it at this time. I used a pro scout example simply because on the baseball side they are widely respected. I was hoping there were people on the softball side that were equally revered that could or have develop this ..because it is sorely needed by families that have interest beyond HS. If one has no idea of the talent level of their DD and you are entering the recruiting time where showcasing is important...hold on for the roller coaster ride. It can be exhilarating...or painful. But it won't be boring.

If families really believe they know how good their DD is and know their strength's and weaknesses and know how to address those...I say fine. The help is not needed and I'll see you on the next level side, pat you on the back and say, "great job."

Evaluation a honest feedback would be critical

I've been at this a while also. There is certainly a need for the kind of service you suggest. There are many of us who do it informally when asked. I can say, though, that you would need to do more than provide your opinion on the child's abilities (both athletically and academically) when asked. I encounter Dad's (mostly) every season who desperately need reality checks regarding their DD's potential. The disturbing trend of earlier recruiting and verbals make good, honest assessment even more important. This is especially true of pitchers. A mystery to me are pitching instructors who tout their students' abilities without ever seeing them throw a game. College softball (particularly D1) is full of "bullpen All-Americans".

No offense to the guy who posted this thread whatsoever.....but GEEZ!!!brother!......the world is full of aluminum siding salesmen, guys with ladders on top of their station wagons, calling themselves "licensed contractors",...and "recruiting counselors".

It sucks when even the best intentioned folks want to do the right thing for the kids and parents only to have someone like me bash your dreams, but trust me "for pay service guys".......until you put some creditable facts on the table, you'll continue to operate under the dark gray cloud of a striped shirted, plaid sportcoated, used car salesman.

 

No disrespect to thread starter, but that's Fishmanism at it's finest.
