First of all 52- your team is out of this tournament completly, so don't talk crap about two teams that are still in it that went 4-0 against your teams this year.

Also we don't play Hickory today, so we cannot beat Hickory.

WHS Girls vs South Caldwell 4:00
WHS Boys vs Hibriten at 5:30
Hickory Girls vs Saint Stephens at 7:00
Hickory Boys vs Saint Stephens at 8:30

yeah i noticed that watauga wasnt playing hickory today, but if they won they would be playing them tomorrow. That's what I was referring to on my reference to maybe they would rather have traded the win in the season against hickory for this one which one be for the tourney championship. What time will the Championship games be starting tomorrow night?

South Caldwell's great outside shooting as well as Hickory's great inside play kept the game very back and forth and intense for the 1st half. South Caldwell was really hitting on all cylinders in the 1st quarter. Hickory from the 2nd quarter on used great poise to take control of the game. #15 for South was dropping perimeter shots one after another in the first part of the game. Hickory took a halftime lead and in the 3rd quarter, it appeared South hadn't been taught on how to work against a press & trap. The repeated mistake of picking the ball up after half-court and waiting for the press before they attempted to work and pass proved costly. As I said though and as many of you all know, alot of times when you live by the 3, you sometimes die by the 3. South just wasn't able to generate as much offense as they needed on the inside to keep in touch during the entire game. Hickory pulled away for a 19 point victory to win the Tournament title. Also like to congratulate the MVP for the tournament which was announced after the game. The 2010 NW3A/4A tournament the award went to #22 Sigmon from Hickory High.

Boys game seemed to start off just as lull as the ending to the girls game. We had a scare and postponement to the beginning of boys game due to a gentleman falling on the visitor side. The EMT brought in a stretcher and carried him out and then the game got underway. I hope the young man is alright. It just appeared to be weak knees that gave way for the gentleman. The Hibriten boys continued to work inside with Lipford and the great penetration of Dula proved to be a key for the Panthers as they built up a 9 point lead at the half. The Hickory boys used great timely defense and scoring to get back into the game and believe me.. just as the girls game was intense in the 1st half, the boys picked up in the 2nd. #33 for Hickory high pulled out his JJ Redick impersonation and began to drain 3's from deep behind the line. There was a huge fast break dunk by Dula, but Darius Lipford added a slam few minutes later on a put back rebound. In the 4th quarter the scores table was underfire numerous times. Once in particular was absurd due to the guy running the clock not knowing when to blow the horn for a 5th foul. The 5th foul was for #33 for Hickory, but the gentleman didn't blow the horn until after Hibriten had missed the free throw and Hickory took the ball across half-court. The shots began to fall more rapidly for the Panthers and not as regularly for the Tornadoes. The game ended with a 7 point victory for the Panthers.

I didn't stay in time to catch the tournament MVP for the boys so this is why I didn't post this.

Great job by all 3 schools represented tonight. I was proud to see the support for all the student athletes. The conference should be proud and pleased with how they will be represented in the playoffs!

Freedom won on a last second three pointer, 56-54.

As for the NW3A/4A MVP, it went to Hibriten's Darius Lipford

Wow.. Didn't Freedom also defeat Alexander Central earlier in the year on a last second half-court shot or something like that? Maybe Freedom has something on their side nobody can contend with. Congrats to the Patriots. Congrats to Lipford as well. The rebounding dunk he made was spectacular. Isn't he going to Duke to play football?
