Fall HS softball season ?

    What are the thoughts on moving the HS season to fall as in other states?Just switch the softball season with the volleyball.

    Would LOVE it!!!! Here in the mountains we have been on the field one time this season. No scrimmages...no nothing. The girls wouldn't have to wait until HS season was over to play TB, they could start in early spring. They could go straight from playing summer ball into their high school season. It would be perfect but will never happen in NC because it makes too much sense.

    There are a lot of pluses to the idea but I think the college bound players would not like it. Too many tournaments in the fall that kids would like to attend and tournaments played in the spring are of little value to college coaches because I think they dont travel during their season.

    As far as weather goes, you would have similar problems at the end of the season as you do now at the beginning.

    Isnt the fall a rebuilding time for a lot of players after a long summer?

    I'll be the first to admit I'm sick of this weather but I just like baseball and softball in the spring the way it is suppose to be. I just wish spring was already here.

    The states that have softball in the fall have volleyball in the spring. The seasons are switched.

    Georgia has SOFTBALL and VOLLEYBALL in the fall.

    There are no advantages to fall HS softball. Its an outdoor, warm weather game. In the spring, players perform better as warmer weather arrives. They need to be at their peak performance come playoff time and conditions in late spring help that. It makes no sense to start the season in warm weather and end it in cold weather, which is what you have in fall sports.

    Also keep in mind that there are schools that don't have lights on their fields. Days get short in October. For a team to travel, warm-up, and play a seven inning game before dark would be very difficult. JV/varsity double headers would be impossible. Time limits and tie breakers would end up being adopted to accommodate light-less fields and that would ruin the game.

    Leave it like it is. Grin and bear this year's cold start. This weather is not typical.

    to me its pick your poison......start out hot and end the season in cold weather or start the season in cold weather and end it in hot weather.
