    Cancelled AGAIN

Our game that was rescheduled for tomorrow was just cancelled due to snow. That now means that our very first time on the field for a game will be a conference game. Change-Up, when are you supposed to play? Playing in the fall is looking better all the time.

Asking in a most humble way, but WHY? Would it not be worse to postpone the state playoffs and finals due to snow or ice?

Currently we run from Feb 15th to close to the first week in June if you translate that to a fall schedule AND we started on Aug 15 it looks like State finals would be the first week of December. Brrrrr....

I know that here we rarely get snow before December 1 and if anybody is going to get it, it is going to be us in the mountains, and that wouldn't matter because they won't be holding playoffs here anyway. By December 1 most teams would be done. Look at your average temperatures for Feb, March, April, and May as opposed to Aug, Sept, Oct and Nov...warmer in the fall months. I believe Winter is defined as December 21 through March 21. If you start February 15 you're playing 5 weeks in the winter. If you start August 15 you are playing Zero weeks in the winter. Playing in December would only effect 16 teams and I'm sure if they made it that far a little cold weather wouldn't bother them. It is just my opinion that it would make more sense not that it really matters much to me personally because this is my last year of dealing with high school ball anyway.:N1yeeaah:

    Make Everybody Happy

There's one easy way to solve this without changing seasons. Just make it to where the high school season is over and done the weekend before Memorial Weekend. SC is able to do this and NC use to be the same way. The HS season has encroached into the TB season over the last 6 years and the school calendar has been changed to where school starts earlier in August now. TB has been squashed in the middle. DD's team played in Nationals 2 years ago and 3 kids had to miss days during the first week of school to play. One of these kids had a teacher that took issue with this and held it against her for the whole semester. School calendar is to long, but that is discussion for another message board. Give credit to the Georgia High School Association for not starting high school softball until after Gold Nationals and finishing it soon enough to where Georgia teams can play TB in November. They get it going and get it done and it doesn't drag out. This is great for the TB kids that want to play HS ball and great for the kids who only want to play HS. A longer balanced season of TB for the committed player and a short season for the strictly HS player. What I've seen over the years, the kids who only play HS ball only seem to stay focused for about 2.5 to 3 months. They won't the HS season to end and the TB kids get tired of dealing with it and want it to be over too. It would be great if even 50% of HS was like N. Davidson, Alexander Central, Butler, and a few others, but it doesn't appear that will ever happen. As long as most HS teams only have 1, 2, and a stretch 3 TB kids on it, the HS caliber/competition will stay right where it is. The N. Davidson, Alexander Centrals, Butlers, and the few other highly competitive HS teams are where they are because they have all TB caliber players and the dedicated coaching. The rest will always be the same with the Cheetos eating teacher in the dugout or if a team does have a decent coach they have no skilled players on the team. I believe this would be the easiest way to please TB and HS, but it's just my 2 cents on the subject.

1a schools would suffer in other areas.

I prefer fastpitch and daughter does not play volleyball, however, 1a volleyball teams would suffer from not having enough quality volleyball players.

In Georgia we start playing softball the first week in August and the State Championship is the last or next to last week in October depending on how it falls.

If you just switched the volleyball season with the softball season it would work well. Volleyball is inside when it is cold and softball is outside when it is warm.
