    alas, my great fear is...

...that the game which was once a pitchers game (still is) is evolving into slowpitch. slowly! we do all we can to help our kids hit the ball ie., composites, double walls, no corners, move the pitcher back; but we do nothing for OUR pitchers! (we move them back and shrink the strike zone!)

its no wonder you develop very few quality pitchers - only thing we can do now is lobby the umpires to expand the strike zone! HA!

One of the thing that I love so much about this game is that it is so much a game of inches. Thus a little improvement goes a long way in performance. I do not know the time involved but I do know you have changed about 8% going from 40 to 43 feet. I am not sure of the exact impact but I do believe that the hitters are benefitting now. Once more pitchers learn to adjust I think it will even out. Some girls are going to have to learn to pitch more and just throw less. Oh and I agree with some others on the umpires calling corners. If more of that were done the 3 feet would have very little impact. Just an opinion.

    Okay Then----

What defines a walk-off HR ?? One that is hit off a slower pitcher or a faster pitcher @ 40' or 43' ?? You still have to put the bat on the ball and go a minium of 200 feet to achieve this task. I know some fields are slightly shorter and some are longer, but if you go the distance it is a HR. Now when we record a HR do we put in the stats she was a slower pitcher or she is basically unhittable ?? Who cares when it goes in the books it says HR ......:smiley-patriotic-fl---- Guru

    My $.02

This change will make the great pitchers (not necessarily flame throwers) shine more brightly. There will be more scoring because there aren't that many great pitchers.

That being said, I don't think it's a bad thing. a 6-5 win is just as good as a 1-0 win and a heck of a lot more fun to watch!

I wouldn't have any idea on how much more time it gives. I'm no expert on pitching or hitting that is why I went to the clinic. I just figured that one of the top D1 coaches in the nation would know what he was talking about when he said it give them a lot more time. One thing for sure the games for the most part are having many more hits and many more homeruns all of a sudden. I don't think that this is the first year that all the girls decided to work harder on their hitting than in years past. Only one thing has changed and that is the distance they are pitching from. Still your real dominate pitchers are still dominate. Wilkerson has allowed 1 base runner in 3 games. no hits so far

There is more of a problem then just their pitching. They should spend more time working on there defense. You can't hang 22 runs scored on a Pitcher. There 7 other girls behind her plus the catcher that have to catch & field.
