2010 State Games Homerun Hitting Contest

Just a thought for the State Games. With all the talk about Homerun's hit this year. Why not set aside a few hours during the State Games to have a Homerun Hitting Contest. 2 rounds of 10 swings front toss bring your own pitcher.

Puts everyone on the same playing field. Lets find out who is the real "Homerun Beast in North Carolina". They could get the feeling to put the gold medal around their neck. Could also give out a silver & bronze medal to the runner ups. Would be very entertaining to watch for fans and college coaches.

To crown the true champion you would need to open it up to any high school players interested. There are some very good players that will not be playing on a State Games Team due to conflicts with vacation, College Camps (Virginia Tech, James Madison & App. State), personal reasons or decisions by selected coaches. But could come down for 1 day for a few hours to represent their School.

Charge $10 entry fee per player. Donations at the gate and give all proceeds to a predetermined charity.

 

Why Not

Good idea, but how about having a all out skills day where every player does everything? The games are during the first of the week, one whole day for every player toshow their skills and maybe ad another day to the games. Just throwin out an idea ? I think the state games are a great event as long as the player selection process is fair.

 

Coach's are always looking for Power, Arm Strength & Speed

Great idea this will get more girls involved, better exposure of their talents and raise more money!

Suggested Events to add to the Homerun Contest:

Throwing (Best Arm) - Each player gets 3 throws from home plate directly down the 3rd baseline. Can use cones to mark longest throws. If you have more than one that throws it over the fence give them both medals.

Running (Best Speed) - Each player gets 2 attempts running home to home. Need 2 timers average the 2 times for official time. Top 3 runners win medals.

 

like this idea... and I have little doubt that the college coaches wouldn't love it even more. Just think... a lot of the best kids in the state in one venue and you can see in black and white who is fastest, who has the strongest arm etc. This would be a big hit Pop.

 

This would be a great! Great chance to see talents of players that are not local and we only read about. I would give something to the lady who hits the longest homerun too!
