    Rob Bain pitched for NW
    Anthony Allende pitched for MP

Allende pitched a complete game shutout.

Both Pitchers had good control with MP getting a couple of hits more than NW to make the difference.

The game wasn't ugly in my opinion. It was a very good high school game if you like timely hitting, good pitching, and for the most part good defense.

I believe NW and MP played their two game series with a total of only one or two errors for the series. NW won the first game 4-3, MP won the second game 2-0. It looked like pretty solid baseball to me.

After seeing several conference teams I would say NW and MP should finish in the mix at the top somewhere. Having said that, the race is wide open going into week three of the conf. season with no team being undefeated.

I would agree BigAl. MPHS out hit NW in both contest, but NW got at least two key hits in the first game. MPHS just got some timely hits in this game to get the win. Both Bain and Allende' had control of the game.
Two good teams going after it. Could they play better, I think both teams
are capable of moving their level of play up a few notches.
Good kids/athletes on both squads and they will be around at the end of the season.
Ugly game, I guess is perspective, but I didn't think it was played that way.

Thanks BigAl, and btw I completely agree with about everything you said. IMO a 4-3 and 2-0 ballgame really shows just about how close these 2 teams are to each other. I guess if your a fan of hitting and scoring, and there isn't much, I can see why you'd be disappointed. But for those who like pitching, defense, bunting, manufacturing runs, coaching strategy,,, I'll take those games anyday.

As for the conference race, I've said all along that MP/NW are (IMO) the class of the conference. However I admit I know very little about Hickory Ridge. Can anyone share what HR's record is, who they've played, key players, etc? Also another team who I think will figure in the final 2 weeks of the season is Kannapolis, solely because of their 2 starting pitchers May and Tuttle. Those 2 pitchers give Kannapolis 6-7 innings per outing and they are as strong on the mound as anyone. Hitting and defense will be the key to Kannapolis, plain and simple.

One last thing I've noticed about this new scheduling setup, while the 2-game series format each week was done so that teams couldn't always use their ace against certain teams,,,,,,, I wonder if the coaches ever thought about just how difficult it is to beat someone 2 times in a row? I'm noticing a pattern of a lot of splits...

When I say the game was ugly I'm meaning that neither team hit the ball as well as they are capable of hitting it. Yes both pitchers in Friday's game threw effectively but both squads have some boys that can really swing the sticks. BTW Countryboy, both teams had 5 hits Tuesday, NW had only 2 hits Friday and MP had 4 hits Friday.

Here again, I guess it's whose scorebook or whose keeping the book.
I was told MP had 5 hits and NW had 4 hits on Tuesday. So, you win!

The most important thing is that the kids (both teams) are doing a great job on the field playing the game!

    Good game

I thought the game was very well played....there were a a couple of errors but all in all, just good pitching. Bain has had two tough complete game losses. He is solid on the hill, just needs more run production when he's on the mound. Allende was excellent on the bump. He mixed up his pitches well and he kept the NW hitters off balance. In my opinion, MP is definitely the favored team in the SPC. I think their bats and coaching give them the edge over the rest of the field. Should be fun to see the season play out.

Hickory Ridge has played Central and Cox Mill in conference so far. Mt vs HR this week with NWC and Robinson also playing. Things could make a qiuck turn in one week.

Go to the website I created for our program at Central Cabarrus:

    www.ccvikingsbaseball.com

There is a section for the SPC standings and results. It should be up to date, based on what the coaches sent me and what I've learned on here.
