When you are at bat and you hit the ball and you reach base on an error, does it help your OB% or not? Or what factors goes into figuring out your OB%.

    Step 1

Add up all plate appearances. This is every time you come to bat.

    Step 2

Subtract sacrifice bunts. The number you get is your total at bats.

    Step 3

Add up all the times you reached base safely, which should include hits, walks and the number of times you reached base by a hit by pitch. This total does not include the times you reached base because of an error or a fielder's choice.

    Step 4

Divide the times you reached base safely by your total at bats.

    Step 5

Round to the third decimal place. For example, .41051 is .411.

Reaching base by any other reason than a hit, base on balls, or hit by pitch will hurt one's on base percentage. The formula is: (H + BB + HBP) / (AB + BB + HBP + SF(sac fly)).

Thanks, that is what I thought. I know some people that thinks if you get on base because of an error it goes toward your on base %.

    Thanks for you help,

As far as stats go, reached on error counts the same as striking out, fielders choice, or put out. The only advantage is the player is still alive, on base, and able to score. Sometimes us parents worry too much about the stats.
I can remember when my college senior was playing as a freshman in highschool. I sked her after a game what her batting average was. Her reply was "dad it doesn't matter what my average is we lost the game".

make sure as this formula states that you count sacrifice flies into the formula. It does not count as an official AB but does count against your OBP. I have never quite understood this logic but it is the rule.
