Spring Break Tourneys

We'll see next week which media outlets are interested in high school baseball. We've sent press releases to all of the area newspapers for the East Meck Spring Showcase (I'm sure Coach Spencer's done the same for their tourney) and had decent response. It will be interesting who comes to cover these two tournaments, which include top flight competition. Between the two tourneys you are looking at some of the best teams that the SW4A (all 7 teams), IMECK, SPC, and Union County have to offer. If they don't cover these tournaments, their just not interested in HS baseball.

The publication and website for South Charlotte Sports is tremendous. This Board Rocks also deserves praise. Otherwise, that's about it. Baseball is the American pastime, but you would never know it here in Charlotte. Now talk of cutting middle school sports makes me sick. Teacher cuts, budget cuts, what is all of that lottery money doing ?? Hello ?? You can't even start to believe the level of mismanagement in areas so extremely important. (education first)
The mediators of this board know their stuff and could be a great contribution to any publication. On a side note, SCS photo section is fantastic, but to pricey. We need more photo coverage of the entire area's baseball talent.

 

I know this is off topic, but there is strong talk about closing two major schools--Independence and North Meck. Two schools that another school had to be built to relieve pressure of overcrowding...Doh!

Yet we have other schools with less than 1000 students that are not under the microscope. Sorry, I had to get that off my chest!

 

I truly understand the economics part, but i don't understand the continuing major coverage of basketball and football when their season is finish. Maybe the little resources they have for high school sports could be directed to the baseball season when it is in. I know the stories and coverage for football and basketball is much better and detailed than what we get for baseball. I know nothing will change anytime soon but i was just wondering if i was the only one who notice the difference.

 

You know we will be at both,, we have a few of the games in real big circles on our calendar!! All the games will be great, but that Christian vs AK game could be something special! We don't provide the game stories, but rest assured, we will exit the event with some really neat human interest stories and player profiles! We can't wait, The Jack Sink is a special event and I know the folks at East Meck are going to put on a great show as well.. They have promised to have some hot dogs ready for my six year old and I !!

We have stories on both events in our paper that prints tomorrow, many thanks to both tournaments for providing information!

These tournaments also serve as a great tool for us to analyze the talent and begin to make invites to the Battle of the Border All Star Showcase Games we hold at Winthrop in June.

Coverage

I see a story in the paper this morning about a game between Hopewell and Vance. Why cover a game with no chance of being competitive? Score was 18-1 and the reporter pointed out Hopewells "17-point" first inning. This isn't basketball, Mr. Reporter. A 17-run inning shows that this game was a lopsided matchup from the start. Why not be at E. Meck and Providence?

Also mispelled the coaches name. Called him Geeson instead of Greeson.

Oh well, I guess some coverage is better than none.

 

hahahah......what a joke. I guess they have farmed out stories to the unprofessional. They missed the class about this axiom, "I don't care what they say, just spell my name right"

Did they report the score as 2 TD's and a field goal in the first inning?

 

With that being said, Let's have an article about girl's soccer in the paper today as well! Wow, dozens of people will be rushing to read that I am sure!
