    Northwest 16 Hickory Ridge 1

The bats came alive for NW, finally giving some support to starting pitcher Rob Bain who had another excellent outing. Taylor West hits his first HR of the season and Corey Seager hits his third HR. Northwest travels to Hickory Ridge Thursday for the rematch.

    It Sure was FUN !!!!

    Hey TJ,
The final was 11-2, but the most fun was hanging out under the big Oak
trees on the beautiful campus of A.L. Brown High School talking baseball with you, Rick "Stick" Mills and Big Ole Lacy Brumley. Stick was the purest hitter I've ever seen and Lacy used to hit bombs over the press box on
a routine basis down at Webb Field. I was just thinking about, if we had
aluminum bats in that era. Stick would have hit .700 and Lacy would have hit baseballs up to the then Concord Middle School.

The pitcher for Kannapolis, Dylan May had control of the game until the 5th and with K-Town up 2-1. He is a gamer even though his pitch count
got a little up there he was in there battling.

Come on down to Mount Pleasant on Thursday, I think Stick and Lacy are coming. If you do get down to the "big city", come on up to the press box and we'll do it all again.

    Good Times....YEP.......YEP

    Just Let Me Know

    Braves,
You are always WELCOME at TIGER Stadium! It took me a while, but I
know some people down there that can get your ticket price reduced from
Ten dollars to only Five dollars and TJ is buying, so the food is free!

Don't know if I'll be able to make the Easter Tourney over at East Meck.
I have to work for a living now and they don't seem to want to pay me unless I'm at work these days. Don't understand that one!
I'll try my best to get there and will look you up. See if you can get me the same ticket deal?

As long as tj brings the 'nana pudding...I'm there.

Work? What's that? Isn't that something that was exported overseas?

Dang 11-2,,,, wow,,,, anyway, I gotta miss Thursday, but tell ya boy I said good luck rest of year, and I'll probably catch you again innext week or so. Save my seat in the pressbox and I'll bring the nanner puddin.

But just to be clear, I am much much younger than those mentioned above (Lace, Stick and Countryboy), but this is what I remember as I used to watch them old dudes in awe when I was only a youngster. Lace would hit balls a mile (that much is true), Countryboy was pretty good ballplayer too (true that too), and Stick always said he was good (AND STILL DOES) yep true that. :bounce:

Speaking of longest homeruns with wooden bats, Countryboy who was that who hit a ball into the swimming pool outside the fence, behind the football grandstands, in leftcenter at old Webb Field? Was that Lace? Also do you remember David Caldwell (lefty hitter) hitting an opposite field HR (again wood bat) at NW up into the road, took a hop and bounced up to the schools' front door? ( :saywhat: no lie) Thing is about these HR's, they ain't no exaggerations, and these swimming pools, schools and homeplates haven't moved either,,, next time you go to these places, walk it off, those were shots. And yes (over the years) I have often wondered about some of those hitters if they had used aluminum.

    But really 11-2? (ouch).

I am much younger than them as well (by several days!), and as a Little League pitcher, nobody scared me but Stick and Caldwell--in fact, when I wasn't pitching, I played 1st base, and when Caldwell batted, I played shallow right field !! My coach asked me (Carl McCombs,RIP) why I would
play so deep, since nobody would cover 1st---I told him "if he hits it to any other infielder, there won't be a throw to first, we'll need to call an ambulance!" ----his reply-"Boy, you're gonna be a doctor someday."

And Stick was almost as good as he told TJ21----AND HE COULD RUN !!!

And Lacy, well, I can't tell you all I know about Lacy, 'cuz he might retaliate about me..... but he was scary on the mound, as was Billy Krimminger, who had a slider before there was such a term.... Wow !! this is nostalgic, and today is my birthday, but I gotta get to work now.... thanks for the moment !!

    Northwest 3 Hickory Ridge 8

Hickory Ridge out hits the Trojans in this one. Starting pitcher for Hickory Ridge threw a heck of a game even though he gave up lead off HR and another one later in the game. Northwest plays West Rowan tomorrow afternoon at 4pm (Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium) and then East Rowan Saturday, also at 4pm

    Kannapolis 2 Mount Pleasant 1

This was a great game to watch, if you like pitching. John J Tuttle for Kannapolis went 7 complete allowing 1 unearned run on 5 hits and struck out 8 (Tuttle has allowed 2 ER in 30-1/3 IP). Anthony Allende went 5 innings for MP, allowing 1 Run on 3 hits and 5 K's. Grayson Atwood takes the loss, allowing 1 unearned run on 3 hits. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth, when MP scored to take a 1-0 lead. Kannapolis answered in the sixth, to tie it at 1 all. After a Garrett Welch double, with 1 out, pinch hitting Tyler Freeze singles to CF, which was misplayed and allowed Welch to score. Tuttle retired MP in order and ended the game on a strike out looking.

    Kannapolis 0 0 0 0 0 1 1 = 2 6 3
    Mt Pleasaant 0 0 0 0 1 0 0 = 1 5 4

    Kannapolis Hitters:
    Tyler Freeze 1-1
    Garrett Welch 2-3 (Run)
    Zach Jones 1-4 (Run)
    Justin Kidd 1-3 (BB)
    John J Tuttle 1-3
