South Stanley Easter Tournament

Mallard Creek beat a hard hitting Piedmont High team 14-9 yesterday. Offensively they were led by Brandon Wilkerson who hitg a long 3 run homer. Kirk Morgan had two hits, Blaine Lewis had two hits, Garrett Hillman 2 hits and 2 rbis, Mikal Hill 3 hits 3 runs scored. Pj Smith scored 3 runs. Michael Boles gave a gritty effort on the mound for the win. Tyler McCarthy came in and finish the game. Mallard Creek plays Hickory Ridge today at 5 pm .

For being so late, it really was a good game where each pitcher(s) held the other team to only 3 hits a piece.

Hitting - CHS - John Mangum - 1 for 3(HR)

In the first inning, John Mangum came up after Cameron Tekker had already been HBP and was waiting on 3rd when John Mangum hit a liner over the left center field wall. On the other side, it was Wallace that was hit by a pitch in the 6th and later scored.

Cuthbertson takes on Olympic at 7:30PM(hopefully) today. Like I said, it was late last night and we didn't even get back home to Union County until around 1:30AM. I hear the Hickory Ridge game went into extra innings and pushed back the rest of the games. Hopefully, Pirates05 can make sure that doesn't happen today.

 

Mallard Creek beat Hickory Ridge 10-9 in the second round of the tournament They will play the winner of the Cuthberson/Olympic tomorrow for the championship.Offensively Kirk Morgan had 2 hits( doubles) Mikal Hill 2 hits( triple) Brandon Wilkerson 2 hits(doubles), Diego Perez 3 run homer, Blaine Lewis 2 run homer, and Jamel Harbison 2 hits( double,homer).

 

Cuthbertson over Olympic 7 - 2 in Semi's

First year Cuthbertson moves to 11 - 1 for the year by taking the Olympic Trojans 7 - 2. Sophmore Cameron Tekker (4-0) was the winning pitcher going 4.1 innings while giving up 0 hits. On the flip side, he had 8 BB's with 8 K's. Freshman Andrew Hendel came into close the game with 1 hit and 4 K's. Hitting got a little better with Peter Hendel going 2 - 2 with a Dbl and 2 walks. John Mangum went 2 - 4. Preston Morrison went 2 - 4 with a Dbl and stole home in the 7th. Majority of the team added RBI's or runs.
Craig Missigman was the losing pitcher for Olympic going 6 innings after having pitched the last 2 innings from the previous night. He had 9 K's and was really throwing the ball hard like we know he can. Both Cameron and Craig have some really good velocity with some very nice breaking balls. The Cavaliers capitalized when they needed to.
Cuthbertson plays Mallard Creek in the Finals tonight at 7:30PM. Should be fun.
P.S. - I had the pleasure of meeting Pirates05 and I can tell you that he's a great guy who loves the game and who has to know half of the ball players in the state. Looking forward to watching all the boys play tonight.

 

He is a great guy and a wonderful baseball resource. He knows all the players because he loves the game and loves the players that play it.

On a side note---keep Pirate happy. You would not want him as an enemy. The man crushes rocks in his hands during the game just for fun

 

Ya think? Last night people asked me if Pirates05 was in attendence and I said they should look for the guy built like a brick house. That would be him.

 

Cuthbertson HS takes the South Stanly Spring Easter Tournament

First year Cuthbertson HS takes the South Stanley Tournament over a tough Mallard Creek, 5 - 1. Junior, Peter Hendel threw a great game for the Cavaliers going all 7 innings. I had Peter Hendel with 2 hits, 7 K's, and 2 BB's. As usual, Mallard Creek was hitting, but the Cuthbertson's defense really came through in the end. SS J D Long showed his strong arm and nice footwork on several balls hit in his direction. The outfield got a workout this game, which doesn't happen that often with the pitchers. One nice play in the 6th came when a shot went out to left field where Freshman Drake Zupcic fielded the ball cleanly, relayed to SS JD Long who quickly got the ball into catcher John Mangum for the out at the plate to end the inning! Everybody on the team played their part, but it was evident that the pither (Peter Hendel) controlled the game from the start and that's what you always count on. Peter Hendel threw a great game.

It was a great night in a great atmosphere. The coaching staff and team at South Stanly really know how to put on a great tournament. This was our first Spring Break Tournament and it was a privilege to get the opportunity to play against teams we wouldn't see in the regular season. Good luck to everybody in the second half.

Hickory Ridge defeated Olympic in the consulation game 9 to 5. Tyler Graham pitched 6 innings for The Ridge allowing 3 runs. Travis Baucom closed the game out in the seventh.
