Thomas Allen (East Rowan, 2010) committed to furthur his education and play baseball at UNC Pembroke. The big righty sports a 6-0 record for the 15-1 Mustangs. Through 33 innings pitched this season, he has a 1.48 era and has struck out 45 batters while issuing 10 walks and allowing 18 hits.

Allen will take the hill tonight as the Mustangs take on Carson (13-3).

Allen verbals earlier in the week, then tosses a no-hitter against second place in NPC and top 10 team in the state on Tuesday.

I'd say he had a pretty good week. If he doesn't have a hot prom date he should ask know while he's on a roll. Congrats to you!!!

Yea I'd say no-hit shutout on a very good hitting 2nd place team is pretty fair. East is very deep on the mound which I think will carry them in the playoffs, but I've seen Allen twice now and he's the real deal. Cannot believe he didn't pitch much last year.

East was just loaded last year on the mound (reason Allen didn't toss much, but he wasn't in the shape he is now, nor was he the pitcher he is now), just like they are this year, and just like they will be next year. Bradley Robbins is a 10th grader throwing in the high 80's right now. I think he has only thrown around 10 innings so far. Will Johnson and Avery Rogers are very good as well.

I love it. What a great post!!!!

Congratulations Thomas. UNCP is an outstanding program and it appears from reading your highlights they are mighty fortunate to get you. I wish you success in your future and glad UNCP is not in the SAC conference.

Allen's numbers are indeed unbelievable so far,,,, in fact I don't know how he ever got a 1.48 ERA,,,,,,,,, really, because to show just how good he has been, in the 2 games he has pitched against the next 2 best teams in his league (2nd place Carson and West Rowan tied for 4th),,, he has given up a grand total of 1 hit and 0 runs in 13 innings pitched. Talk about big game pitching.

And travisunc, you are correct about East obviously being loaded last year, as evidenced as their deep playoff run and only losing to eventual state champ Lake Norman. But it is just amazing to me how a program (any program) can lose the number of ballplayers to graduation one year, and be this good the very next year. But they do. Coach Hightower does a great job up there obviously,,,, but while he's a great game manager, at the same time it is very clear that he does most of his work in the offseason. His teams are always well schooled in fundamentals from Day 1.

Congrats to Thamas and his family. My son had the pleasure of playing with Thomas when he was in Elizabeth City and he is a classy kid and his family is top notch. Not sure of UNCP entire class but if they are all like Thomas and the Whitehead kid from Lawrence Academy they should have a very good group.

Will Johnson is amazing. Has great control. He and Thomas Allen are definitely the aces for the team, with Parker Gobbel, Bradley, and Avery doing great jobs as well. And Preston Troutman. East lost 11 seniors last year, but the consistency is still there......
