Can someone tell me if there is a reason why HS players don't wear face masks? Is it that it's "not cool" or that you just don't need to wear one because at that age, you should have the confidence already?

I do think the "cool" issue is part of it but I have also heard that college coaches frown upon the game face. Anyone with college players out there who can comment?

    in college ball...

I can only think of one team my DD played where a girl wore a gameface. It was a pitcher.

Face masks are for protection, they help with confidence because of that. Sadly in HS it is considered by some to be uncool. I have even heard people say college coaches take the wearing of a defensive mask as a sign of weakness, that is just not true.
It is my understanding that three players died due to getting hit in the head while on defense. I would not be surprised if the face guards become mandatory in the very near future at the HS and TB levels.

Do you have a link to this?

Are batting helmet face-masks required in HS or TB?

I wish I did But I do not, If I find it I will gladly post the link on here.
Batting helmet masks have been mandatory in HS and TB for three or four seasons now.

The higher the level "usually" the better the fields are groomed. After a few games on a TB tournament field, the best of them are going to get dangerous hoops.

Here's a link that could have been:

I remember all the controversy when batting cages were going to be required. Our teams--HS and TB wore them before they were mandatory. Now it's not even a thought about them.

I recall an excellent player named Candi Marshburn (a tough kid) getting hit in the face mask so hard that it could not be straightened even with vise grips. That was one of the heavy Schutt cages. I can only imagine what damage would have been done to her face.

I've seen numerous times when the cage is hit; by pitched balls as well as foul balls from bunts. They're worth the price--in dollars and "sense".

sp jv coach --- "it is not a rule that you have to wear them in high school, SP wears them as a coaches rule, but no official rule. most of the time only a mouth piece is required and i think that is just in AAU"
