I guess the 2 run homerun was not earned. Just an error on the North Pitcher for throwing the curve ball. The other six hits were pretty good shots as well.

    Providence Day 7...Charlotte Country Day...5

    CCDS...010 010 3...5..6..2
    PDay....400 003 x...7..3..1

    Winning Pitcher: Andrew Pope (7IP, 6H, 5R, 4ER, 3K, 1BB)
    Losing Pitcher: Jim Mitchell (5IP, 1H, 5R, 4ER, 2K, 3BB)

    Leading Hitters:

    CCDS: Colin Walls, 2-3, 2B, 2RBI
    CCDS: Truett Langdon, 2-3, 2B
PDay: Matt Metzger, 2-3, 2 HR, 5 RBI
    PDay: Scott Taylor, 1-3, HR

Providence Day turned the tables on Country Day, matching the 4-run 1st inning that Country Day put up in their first meeting on Tuesday. PD only managed three hits over 7 innings, but all were home runs. Matt Metzger launched two high-arching bombs that plated 5 runs and Scott Taylor added a solo shot. Colin Walls and Truett Langdon both went 2-3 with a double to lead the Country Day attack. Jim Mitchell only gave up one hit over 5 innings for Country Day, but a few walks and an error from the mound conspired to undermine an otherwise good performance. Andrew Pope went the distance for PD, scattering 6 hits and holding tough in the face of a 3-run Country Day rally in the final frame.

The rubber match is Friday at 7:00 at Country Day.

If an error was made that would have been the third out of an inning, any further runs are unearned if I'm not mistaken

Props to NW pitcher Weston Smith (2012) for pitching complete game and getting his first varsity win.

    Sun Valley - 14 Kannapolis - 2 (5 Innings)

The score looks ugly, but Kannapolis is trying to find pitching, for relief and a third starter. Justin Kidd started the game and gave up 1 run off 3 hits after 2 innings. Kidd started the third, but could only retire 1 batter, leaving the bases loaded and down 5-1. Then this got pretty ugly, Sun Valley scored 8 more runs in the third to take a 14-1 lead.:surrender: Ryan Smith and Steven Blyth both homered off Alex Brandon, who was the third pitcher in the inning. Tyler Freeze pitched a scoreless 4th, before the "mercy rule" ended the game. Believe it or not, I was actually impressed by the effort Kannapolis showed, after committing 7 errors against Hickory Ridge, only a throw that missed the cut-off from the OF (that had no impact) was the only error. It's games like these, where effort and heart is magnified.:bigok: Sun Valley can hit, from top to bottom and displayed great sportsmanship and class. For future reference, if I'm coming from I-485 and take Hwy 74, how can I avoid the left turn onto Old Charlotte RD? (The one that takes 15 minutes to make!):suicide:
