    Mooresville

glad to see Mooresville in the newest Sweet 16 poll, Mooresville has beat very good teams this year such as Mallard Creek, Hopewell, Pinecrest, and Lake Norman. Jacob Mays is leading the team in BA, batting over .400 and the rest of the lineup is hitting well also

These numbers must be from Max Preps. Weddington's coach doesn't report scores to them and thus it looks like we only played 9 games.

Marvin Ridge is actually 13-4 (6-2 conference)
    Weddington is 13-6 (6-2 conference)

Not much of a realistic poll when you think about the fact that Weddington has beaten #3 Ardrey Kell, #9 Charlotte Christian, and #4 Marvin Ridge. Losses to those on this list were four games by a total of 9 runs to Providence (4), West Stanly (3), East Meck (1), and MR (1). Of course a number of teams could think they should be higher as well.

I don't think anything is close to being right in this poll, or any of the others I've seen posted. I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens when the State Tournament starts. Then those that played the weak schedules and got cheap wins will be found out as pretenders instead of contenders. At least the CO published something about HS baseball in the area!!

What I tried to imply was that the CO hasn't done much, if any, research on this. The only place that shows the records for MR and Weddington as they have it.... is Max Preps. The records were lifted from an incomplete source. Didn't it seem a little strange to them to have a team listed as the 16th best team in the area that has only played 9 ballgames? West Stanley is only showed to have played 10 games. Most of the other programs are shown to have played at least 15 games.

uchsbaseball.com has a complete listing for Union County teams and their respective conferences. A nice site that shows the county leaders in several stats as well.

Any poll is nothing more than a conversation piece, but given the CO's lack of baseball coverage this year, I was afraid they might try another poll and it would either leave off someone obvious, appear incomplete or whatever.

They need to just leave the polls alone for now, and continue working on improving their coverage. The recent articles on a few games is a glimmer of hope for those who play baseball in the Charlotte area.

Agreed, I think the Observer should leave the polls alone if they are only going to do it every 6 weeks and they are not even going to verify team records are accurate. I love seeing other schools getting some attention other than the SW4A but what is it with Garinger? Two weeks in a row they have profiled two different kids and talked about their teams success.
I for one am excited for Garinger it has been a successful year for them by their standards but lets put it in perspective they have not exactly excelled against what anyone would classify as a solid baseball school. Meanwhile the top 5 teams in the I-meck are in a dogfight and the only coverage I recall for I meck was a slaughter of Vance by Hopewell. Is it that hard to look at the standings and cover games with impact and reader appeal. Is that not one of the first lessons taught in journalism school?
