Big, big win by the Mavericks. I wouldn't dare jinx them by saying how good they are, but..................

    Cuthbertson V CATA

Cuthbertson beat CATA last night 6 - 3 to go 15 -1 for the season. Preston Morisson had the win on the mound going 6.2 innings with Peter Hendel coming in to close out the game. JD Long had a good game taking one ball for a triple.
Cuthbertson goes to West Stanley on Tuesday to play for first place in the conference. If that wasn't tough enough, they play at Piedmont on Friday. Should be a good week for baseball.

Charlotte Country Day 4...Providence Day 3

    PDay.....100 100 10...3..6..1
    CCDS....000 003 01...4..6..3

    Winning Pitcher: Lee Harrison (4-0) (8IP, 3R, 3ER, 6H, 10K, 4BB)
    Losing Pitcher: Sam Arnie (2IP, 1R, 1ER, 3H, 1K, 0BB)

Country Day and Providence Day battled in a well-played game that had a little bit of everything. Starting with an unexpected power outage at dusk to the field lights that caused play to be suspended last night and resumed this morning, to a walk-off home run to bring the game to an end. Good pitching was the story early as Michael Backlund of Providence Day kept the Bucs hitless through five innings and Lee Harrison of Country Day pitched out of a first-inning jam by recording two straight strikeouts. Harrison pitched an 8-inning complete game with 10 strikeouts. The Country Day bats got going in the sixth inning with 4 hits breaking up the no-hitter, capped off by a 2RBI double by Alex Perullo to plate the tying and go-ahead runs. PD countered with a 2B by Sam Arnie and a game-tying RBI single by Andrew Pope. Harrison induced an inning-ending double play to stifle the rally. In the bottom of the 8th inning, Justin Ide blasted a game-winning walk-off home run to the delight of the home crowd, bringing the game to closure 15 hours after it started.

    Leading Hitters:

CCDS: Justin Ide 2-3, GW HR, 2RBI
    CCDS: Chad Walton 2-4
    CCDS: Alex Perullo, 1-3, 2B, 2RBI
PDay: Sam Arnie, 2-4, 2B, RBI
    PDay: Andrew Pope 1-3, RBI
    PDay: Scott Taylor 1-3, 2B

Charlotte Country Day (12-6, 5-3 conf.)
    Providence Day (7-10, 2-4 conf.)

Weyco, it was definitely good to finally meet you too. I hope Dylan will be ok, he brings it pretty good. The Wonders are ok, they just had a tough night all round, sometimes it happens. Good thing about baseball, is tomorrow brings a new day. Best of luck against NW next week, hope to see some of that.

Braves, is that ME your referring to, when you talk about "wizened veterans" ??? :sultan:

    Marvin Ridge vs. Weddington

Weddington comes back strong from the hard 12-11 loss suffered on Tuesday in the 11th. MR scored in the 1st on a hit & run. Weddington scored in the bottom of the first on another HR by Boone. The 1st inning ended tied at 1-1. From then on it was a hit fest for Weddington. Weddington went on top 11-2 with two outs and 2 runners on in the 5th, but couldn't push the 10th run across to end it early. MR fought back in the 7th crossing 3 before the final out was made by Weddington. Jordan Newsome pitched a very good game for Weddington through 6 innings. He's been the go to guy all year and proved his metal once again against a powerful offense from MR. Anytime you hold MR to 2 runs....you've done one heck of a job!!

MR and Weddington are tied for the conference lead. Weddington has conference games left with Anson Co (x2) and out of conference games against South Meck and the rematch with Grace Academy to finish up the regular season. MR has conference games left with a hot Sun Valley team next week (x2) that could decide the conference title.

Should be an exciting week in Union County Baseball!

    Marvin Ridge Vs Weddington

1down22togo - Great game last night. I sat in the cheap seats last night over center field that are NO LONGER cheap. The crowd was good and loud and Weddington was really working it through the game. A lot of shots might not have been hard liners, but mary janes can do the job, as well. It's great to see both these teams in the same conference and to have such a rivalry. I would really like to see Cuthbertson HS move up next year and then we really could see some fireworks. I'll let you know how I feel after we play marvin Ridge on April 30th. Hope we can get Weddington on the schedule for next year.
