    baseball isnt fastpitch softball

not sure about comparison: MLB = high school fastpitch??

    anyway, some good points mentioned.

so, how do we help our fp pitchers? i mean, we cant just tell them if we have to pay to get in, then you have to pitch from 43ft. they are not looking at a 20 million dollar signing bonus. if you think about it, there are many other ways to get into college that are alot funner and easier than pitching a ball 43ft. the question has never been you are pitching to get into college. its about the sport itself isnt it?

and for you mommas and daddys out there who want to pay to watch the grass grow on a baseball diamond thats been lowered 10inches for a bunch of grown men, have at it. ;) ...or the paint dry at augusta for that matter.

The extra 3' is helping it be more of a team sport. If we wanted it to be primarily a pitcher-catcher sport we could play at 35' maybe.

The 3' change has definitely helped the offense. Now the fielders will have to improve and the game will be more entertaining for the fans--and the players.

Some of the defensive skills that haven't been as necessary are showing up this year. A lot of forgotten knowledge is being resurrected.

The mound was lowered 5" not 10"... if the whole field had been lowered 10", the rain delays would really be a b!tch! Also, I've watched the grass grow just as slow on a softball field as on a baseball field... there was just more of it because the baseball field is bigger.:coool:

who are you warning? my posts were, first, a correction to a misstated fact, and second, my opinion that the move to 43' will make the game more interesting.

and most of all... this is all in fun!

One Problem That Might Be !!

I was talking to a highly ranked ACC player's dad yesterday, and he believes most of the comments on the distance change is coming from pitcher's parents. So he asked his kid who right now is one of the best hitters in the ACC,and she said to her dad, she can't really tell the difference, that you don't have the time to consider 40 or 43 feet when you are trying to focus on hitting the ball...This kid hit 28 career HR's while in high school in the state of N.C. @ 40'...... So even if there is a difference the real arguement here I think is that pitcher's parents if they are honest with themselves are more concerned with ERA's then the 43'....and if you really think about you are insulting the hitters that work day in day out throughout the years when you tell them the reason they are hitting the ball is because of the distance increase.

    my apologies cometfan...

...sorry! this is good stuff. will 43ft help the game? its debatable. if a goal is to play college ball, then learning to pitch and hit that distance is a great idea. over time. my opinion remains: it is a pitchers game. it should remain so. if you want to see offense - theres slowpitch.

Want to see fp back in olympics? move the pitcher mound back to its original location. ...and/or let the developing countries recruit pitchers from the west coast usa.

After seeing the changes to the HR counts this year, does anyone still believe that 43 feet wont make a difference?

Not me! I see a big difference and not just in HRs but hitting in general. The girls didn't just all of a sudden this year become that much better hitters as a group. Me I love 43' puts more people in the game than just a pitcher
