    Cuthbertson Over Union Academy 11 - 0

Cuthbertson came back after a tough loss on Tuesday to beat Union Academy 11- 0 in 5 innings. They were all hitting the ball and playing good defense. On a high note - Brian Donavon was the winning pitcher going all 5 innings. Brian is a sophmore and another of our LHP's on the team. He's been rehabing the arm the first part of the year and he is now cleared to pitch, which is perfect going into the playoffs. And before anybody ask...I don't see any fear of over pitching ANY of the boys since we are loaded with a strong and deep rotation.
Cuthbertson is 16 - 2 and 11-2 in the conference. Big game on Friday when we go to Piedmont where we will be playing for 2nd place in the conference.

    EM v Hopewell

Boxscore available through webcast (Hop. wins 6-4), but wanted to comment on the game briefly. First, Hunter May can pitch. He had his curveball working and really settled into a rythm after the 3rd inning. Both pitchers did really (all but one run were scored early). Second, the Titans have come together as a team. They look like a totally different group than what I saw over spring break. Coach Greeson deserves a lot of credit for what he and his coaching staff have accomplished with this very skilled group. They used to be a bunch of talented individuals, but last night they looked like a talented team. Third, this was an enjoyable game to watch. Both teams played hard, swung the bats, and made some nice defensive plays. East had their chances and hit the ball hard. They just couldn't get the tying run across the plate. Coach Koppe has the Eagles playing loose and confident. Overall, its the kind of non-conference game that will pay dividends for both teams come playoff time.

Very observant, Lion. I enjoyed the game very much. I don't think the score was indicative of how well both pitchers pitched---they both threw complete games.

The difference, imo, is that Hopewell can hit--up and down the order. There are no freebies. Lou Trosch for East Meck was masterful in his performance. He made 3 mistakes all night and Keith Prowse and Cody Strickland didn't miss them. I have seen Keith before so that didn't surprise me, but it was my first time watching Cody swing the bat and he was very impressive. His double was one of the key hits in this game. When Hopewell plays relaxed, it's a murder's row to face---Conley, Whitecavage, Himler, Hammond and co. can go yard at any time.

I was very interested in watching Hunter May pitch. I've heard so much about him and I wanted to see him for myself. As Lion said the kid can pitch. He has a running fastball, a tight curve and a mature change up. He can throw all 3 pitches with confidence in any count. He reminds me a little bit of Jordan Darnell of AK fame. Same frame and similar delivery. One of the things I like is he didn't react to miscues and was one of the first off the field, turn and congratulate his teammates as they came off. That's how you build team chemistry.

As Lion also said, after the 3rd inning he was in a groove and his confidence affected the whole team.

East Meck played well, too. Trosch pitched well enough to give his team a chance to win, This may have been the best hitting team he's faced all year, but he did an outstanding job. Both pitchers suffered from not getting the outside pitches called and that's Lou's bread and butter.

That's 6 in a row for Hopewell going into Friday night's brawl with Lake Norman. That one should be very intense.

The South Meck Sabres were able to beat a very scrappy Weddington team tonight at Sabre field 7 - 4.

Steven Hasty started and got the win for the Sabres while throwing six strong innings while giving up only two (2) earned runs.

Deuce Wright (Spartanburg Methodist) had two hits (single & double) with two (2) RBI's for the evening.

Michael Atz (USC Sumter) closed the game out while striking out the #2 #3 & #4 hitters to preserve the win and get his second save of the year.

South Meck is now 4 -4 in the SW4AThey play Independence tomorrow night at Sabre Field.

Lake Norman Looses to West Iredell 6-5..

LKN went up 5-3 in the top of the 7th on a Joey McAlpin 2 rbi single.
Kevin Wentzel pitched a great game for LKN going 6 1/3 allowing 4runs 2 er. he was relieved after walking a batter in the bottom of the 7th by Joey McAlpin. Will Femister then hit a 2 run HR to tie it up(on his Senior Night). That made it 5-5 LKN got another out. The #9 batter came up with 2 outs hit a ball to ss ball went through his legs, then a pitchout throw down to first was wide of first the runner made it to 3rd. with 2 outs the next batter grounded out to 2nd but there was a error. Lake Norman looses a tough one. 6-5.

Lake Norman 12-6 plays at Hopewell Tomorrow in a big conference game. Hopewell comes in riding a 6 game win streak.

    Charlotte Country Day...8 Marvin Ridge...7

    Marvin Ridge.....101 401 000.....7...8...0
    Country Day.....001 203 101.....8..15..4

    Winning Pitcher: Lee Harrison (5-0) (5.1 IP, 1R, 2H, 6K, 0BB, 0ER)
    Losing Pitcher: Joey Thomson

The Bucs win an entertaining game at home vs. highly-ranked Marvin Ridge in extra innings. Marvin Ridge had a 6-1 lead at one point, but Country Day clawed their way all the way back to tie the game in the bottom of the 7th and win it in the bottom of the 9th on a walk-off RBI single by Colin Walls (his second GW RBI of the season). Lee Harrison was stellar in relief, only allowing one unearned run over 5 1/3 innings. After a slow start, the Bucs bats came alive led by Alex Perullo, who enjoyed a 4-5 night with a home run and double. Chris Onerato, Justin Ide and Colin Walls all chipped in with two hits apiece and William Frazier added a triple. Chad Walton had a key 2RBI single with 2 outs in the 6th inning to set up the dramatic bottom of the 7th where Lee Harrison coaxed a walk to force in the tying run with Country Day down to their last out. Perullo led off the bottom of the 9th with a double and after a wild pitch and a walk, Walls drilled the 3rd pitch he saw into left field for the game-winner.

    Leading Hitters:

CCDS: Alex Perullo 4-5, HR, 2B, RBI
CCDS: Colin Walls 2-4, 2B, GW RBI
    CCDS: Justin Ide 2-4, RBI
    MR: JC Howze 2-3 RBI
    MR: Josh Ferguson 2-3, RBI

Country Day (13-7) Marvin Ridge (14-5)
