If the defensive player for who the DH is hitting takes his place as a pinch runner, in the "Luis/Diesel" scenario, why does that not count as a substitution? I have 11 players and run into this a lot this year, and want to be able to explain this to an ump when I try to do it this week!

My thought, until reading this post, was that I could enter the defensive player to run, which would not only kill the DH for the game (the concept of a DH, not the player himself), but also count as that player (the DH) coming out of the lineup. I then figured I could reenter the DH later as a defensive player (in the same spot in the lineup of course).

I have been told by 2 sets of umps that after this, I cannot reenter the original defensive player for whom the DH was batting. However, according to this board, I would be able to do that correct?

    How to explain it is.....

.......make sure the umps know that you have 10 starters in your lineup and that EACH starter can leave and re-enter the game one time and if he don't believe you then protest the game and tell the umpire to call Chapel Hill to get confirmation of this rule.
